GBG BATES FRANKLIN D. SEWARD, OF RUTHERFORD, NEW' JERSEY, AND GEORGE Vf. RAYMOND, OF NEW YQRK, N. Y.
RUG AND CARPET HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 28, lgt.
Application filed May 3, 1910. Serial No. 559,203.
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANKLIN D. SEW- Ann and GEORGE lV. RAYMOND, citizens of the United States, residing, respectively, in Butherford, Bergen county, and State of New Jersey, and in the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rug and. Carpet Holders, of which the following is a specification.
Our improvements are designed to aii'ord a simple but eective stair carpet fastening and the invention consists in the specific construction and arrangement of parts herein described and claimed.
ln the accompanying drawings, Figure l, is an isometrical view of our improved stair carpet holder; Fig. 2, is a top view of the same; Fig. 8, is a section upon plane of line lma- F ig. 2, illustrating the use of the device; Fig. il, is a sectional view taken upon plane of line 5-5 Fig. 2.
The base plate B, is adapted to be attached to a floor or other surface and to it is hinged one or more grip plates G, formed with prongs y), for engagement with the texture of the under or rear side of a stair carpet. rlhe clip members c, c, are formed upon the base plate, and are adapted to snap over and clasp edges e, e, formed for engagement therewith on the grip plate or plates G. By this arrangement we are enabled to make the clip members c, c of sufficient length to extend slightly beyond the engaging edges of the grip plate, thereby attaining a firmer interlocking of the parts.
A distinguishing feature of our invention consists in making the base B, in the form of a rectangular plate having a grip plate G, hinged to each member thereof, the grip plates both being adapted to swing inward centrally toward the angle, thereby adapting the device for use particularly as a stair carpet fastening of peculiar efficiency in that the carpet is held iirmly in both directions in the stair corner, or angle between the tread and the riser, thus effectually prevent-- ing the creeping of the carpet in either direction, and holding it taut and firm under all conditions of use.
rlhe grip plates G, may be hinged or otherwise secured to the base pla-te in such manner as to permit of their being swung thereon; and the base plate may be secured to the floor, tread or riser or other support by any well known mechanical expedient, as by screws or tacks driven through the holes g, g. rlhe number of prongs on the grip plate may be suited to meet the requirements of use, one or more being formed on each plate as may be found most expedient and hence we have designated them by the term pronged grip plates.
What we claim as our invention and desire to secure by Letters Batent is,
A device of the character described, comprising a rectangular base plate adapted to be secured to supporting surfaces situated at right angles to each other, and grip pronged plates, one attached to each meinber of the base plate by means which admit of its swinging inward thereon centrally toward the angle of the base plate, said grip plates being adapted to engage the rear side of a floor covering, and said base plate being formed with clip members adapted to snap over and engage with portions of the grip plates, substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
