FASTENING FOR BUGS, MATS, CARPETS, AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 16,1913.
Application filed August 13, 1910. Serial No. 576,971.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANCIS WILLIAM GILLER and DALE MARSHALL, subjects of the King of Great Britain, and residents of 4 Blenheim Parade and Winchcombe street, respectively, Cheltenham, in the county of Gloucester, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in and Connected with Fastenings for Rugs, Mats, Carpets, and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to carpet or rug fastenings, and has for one of its objects to provide a simpleand inexpensive device of this type, by means of which the carpet, rug or mat is effectively fixed in position upon the floor without the use of nails or tacks.
With these and other objects in view, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the combination, arrangement and construction of parts hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying'drawings, it being understood that many changes may be made within the scope of the appended claim in the size and proportion of the several parts and minor details of construction without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the fastening means, and Fig. 2 is a similar view of the device as it appears in use.
The device consists of a sheet metal plate A, preferably triangular in shape, and provided at its corners with prongs B, which extend upward at right angles to the plane of the plate A. Each prong has at its free end sidewardly extending barbs or shoulders E. This plate A is fastened to the floor by means of a screw or nail S, which engages a, preferably, centrally arranged hole in said plate. 7 a
When the rug, carpet or mat is placed upon the floor and pressed firmly down by the act of walking upon the same, the prongs B will enter the fabric, preventing thereby the same from slipping laterally, while the barbs E prevent the same from moving in a verticaldirection relative to the floor, except when disengaged from the fastening means intentionally.
The number of the fastening means varies, of course, according to the size of the fabric to be fastened to the floor, and the size of the prongs depends upon the particular fabric.
What we claim is:
In a device of the character described, the combination of a plate having a hole, with a screw inserted into the hole and applied to the floor, vertically upwardly extending prongs arranged on the plate and sidewardly extending barbs of an obtuse angle arranged on the prongs.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of two witnesses.
FRANCIS WILLIAM GILLER. DALE MARSHALL.
