To all whoinit may concernrfj.
Be it known that I,A HoWAaD E., CorFIN, a citizen of the United States of America, re -`siding at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented cer- A- tainv new anduseful Improvements in Running-Boards for Automobiles, ofwhich the following is a specification, reference being had therein to t e accompanying drawings,
The invention'relates to running boards for automobiles and consists in the construction as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings-Figure l is a plan View ofthe structure; Fig. 2 is aside elevation 5' and Fig. 3 1s a cross section.
It is the object of the invention to obtain alight, strong, noncorrosive"'inetallic running board, and one Which possesses a highly ornamental appearance. This I accomplish by forming the body portion of the board of a steel plate A, having down-turned marginal fianges B. The top of the plate is then covered by a facing C preferably-- of sheet aluminum, which is corrugated or otherwise embossed. Thisplateis secured in position by an angle 'section'frame D, .having one wing E extending overV the aluminum facing, and the other wing F extending downward adjacent to the flange B. 'l`h1s frame is preferably formed of brass, and may be secured by any suitable means, such as the rivets G.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application led .Tune 18`I 1909. Serial No. 502,910.
Patented Aug. 16, 1910.
The 'construction as described possesses strength and rigidity, due to the flanged i steel plate, While the aluminum facing 4and brass border produce avery -pleasing appearance., Furthermore, this facing protects the steel from corrosion. 7 What I claim as my invention is:
1. A running board for motor vehicles, comprising. a pressed steel construction having a top late and downturned marginal flanges, a acing of embossed sheet lmetal overlying said plate,l and a frame embrac lng the margin of said facing and t-he downturned flanges of the late.
2. A running boar for motor velneles, comprising a steel -plate having downturned marginal flanges, a top. facing formed of non-corrosive material overlying said plate, and an angle-sha ed marginal frame of brass clamping saiv facing and surrounding yand concealing said .downturned anges.
3. A runnin board for motor vehicles, comprising afp ate having downturned marginal flanres, a top facing for the plate, and va frame c amping the facing and surrounding the downturned flanges of the plate.
