Aproved manner of att-aching delitti gieten @tutti Gemine,...
Lette/ijs Patent No. 96,563, dated Not-amber 9,1869.
IMPRQVED HARNESS-PAD.
- The Schedule referred to in `these Letters Pa-tent and making part ivi' the lame.
l.nud use the same, reference being =had to the accom'n panying drawings, forming part of this specification. This invention relates: to improvements in the construction of back-straps ot' harness for horses, and
has for its object to provide an imthe binding for the same.
The invention consists in a mode of' securing the binding upon the said straps, by sewing with a .m'achine'instead of securing it by tacks, driven upon and riveted to the metal yoke, which forms the base of the strap.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a back'- strap, constructed according tol my improved plan; and
Figure 2 represents a section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding arts.
A represents the outer part of the'back-strap;
B, the metal plate, employed asa base for the strap C, the lining; and A D, the binding for the edge.
other animals, and
This .'bindiug, when' formed asfreprcsented in cross-section in the drawings, has been heretofore secured tothe lining G by tacks,
plateB, by which they' were riveted. the tacks cnt and'tear the lining. 1t is also slow and expensive, as the tacks; must be driven by hand.
I propose, previous to inserting the metal plates B under the .lining C, to place the edges a. of the binding on the lining, inthe proper place, near the edge, and secure them temporarily, by pasting. I then permanently secure them, by stitchingI with a sewingmachine, as represented on the lines E; and this' I do s'- mnltaneously, and by the same operation of the usual stitching at the edge for ornament, and for securing the lining G to the part A, thus saving materially in the cost, and making a much neater job. The plate B is afterward inserted through the slit F in the lining, which is sewed up.
Having thus described my invention,
Patent- Uniting the binding D to the lining C, by. stitching it simultaneously with the stitching of the lining to the top, and by the same operation,substantially as specified.
The above spcification of my invention sigued'by me, this 18th 4day of May, 1869.
