NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOI-INR. HALDEMAN, OF INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI.
LOOSE-LEAF HOLDER.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, J oHN R. HALDEMAN, citizen of the United States, residing at Independence, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loose-Leaf Holders, of which the following is a lspecication.
My invention relates to improvements in loose-leaf holders, and it is especially adapted for holding checks and stubs such as are employed by banks for general distribution among their customers.
With this object in view the invention consists in the construction, combination, and novel arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim herewith appended, it being understood that various changes in form, proportions, and minor details of construction, may be resorted to without departing from the principle, or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the invention, Figure l represents a broken perspective view of my looseleaf holder in an open position. Fig. 2 is a cross section of the same closed. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective of certain features forming important parts of the invention.
In carrying out the invention, I employ a cover consisting of lids l, and a back Q. whereby said lids are united. One of the lids is provided with a pocket 3, for a purpose which will hereinafter appear. The lid containing the pocket is also provided with a plurality of fastening devices 4, comprising sockets having resilient sides and narrow throats, as shown in Fig. Q..
5 designates a plurality of loose-leaf holders, of U-form to provide prongs 6 and 7. Prongs 6 are adapted to detachably engage Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Apr, 19, 1910,

the fastenings 4, and are provided near their terminals with peripheral grooves 8, which the narrow portions of the fastening devices are adapted to enter and thus reliably secure the prongs 6.
Prongs 7 are united by a broad plate 9, which performs the dual function of supporting the stubs of checks when the holders 5 are removed from the cover, and assists in securing said holders to the cover when inserted in the pocket 3, shown in Figs. l and 2.
In practice checks or loose-leaves are applied to the holders by slipping them over prongs 6 and moving them over ontoprongs 7. Plate 9 is then inserted in pocket 3. This brings the free ends of prongs 6 into coincidence with the fastening devices 4, into which they are forced by downward pressure of the thumbs.
From the above description it will be understood that I have produced a loose-leaf holder which is simple in construction and operation, and well adapted for the purpose intended.
I-Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim is:
The combination with a cover, of resilient fastening devices on said cover, U-
shaped leaf-holders having prongs, one set of which is provided with peripheral grooves and adapted to detachably engage said fastening devices, a rectangular plate rigidly secured to the other set of prongs, and a pocket in the cover -to receive said plate.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN R. HALDEMAN.
