UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPH S. JAKOBSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MUSICAL GARDEN ORNAMENT.
ea1,c11.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADoLri-i S. JAxosoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State ofv New York, have invented a new and Improved Musical Garden Ornament, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a new and improved ornament for houses, gardens, roof gardens or the like, which will be exceedingly beautiful and attractive to the eye, and which will at the same time produce, by the action of the gentle breezes thereon, a ringing sound of such ethereal sweetness and of suoli inexplicable delicacy and variety of tones which will appear to be at a great distance and yet indeinitely near, that they will produce an almost magical soothing effect on the hearers.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts, to be more fully described hereinafter and particularlyf set forth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specifi cation, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a view in elevation; Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view in elevation, showing one of the musical bells in detail; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal -section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the separate parts of my invention, 1 indicates an ornamental fence or railing, to be used to inclose a roof garden or the like, and which has located thereon at intervals a plurality of musical ornaments 2, only one of which is shown. The ornament 2 consists of a vertical or upright stalk 3, from which stretch out intermediate the top and the base thereof, a pair of branches 4 and 5, which extend substantially in the same longitudi nal direction as the fence 1.
Extending from the top of the stalk 3 and drooping over therefrom, there are provided a plurality of branches 6, 7 and 8, preferably three in number, and extending at substantially equal angles from each other. The stalk 3 and each of the branches 4 to 8 may be ornainentally colored and gilded, and are provided with a plurality of leaves 9, so as Specification of Letters Patent.

to represent the stalk and branches of a tree or other plant.
At the extremities of the branches 4 to S, they are each provided with a musical ornamental bell 10. The outer casing 11 of each of these bells is in the form of some flower, preferably a rose, and may be suitably col ored to represent said flower and appear pleasing to the eye.
ithin the outer casing 11, there is provided a bell-shaped member 12, which constitutesthe bell proper and is formed of a suitable material, such as glass, so as to produce a musical note when struck by a clapper 13 pivotally supported within the member 12, in any suitable manner, as by means of a screw eye 14. Each of the members 12 in the musical ornamental bells 10 is so constructed as to have a diiferent pitch or tone, so that they will each produce a different musical note.
In order that the clappers 13 may be actu ated by the wind, they are each provided with a vane 15 suspended from the lower end thereof. In order that these vanes may be actuated by the wind coming from any -4 direction, they are each in the form of two members 16 and 17 crossed at their middle, and are preferably in the shape and form of leaves, so as to be attractive to the eye and conform with the general scheme of decoration.
It will thus be seen from the above description that when this ornamental musical device is located in the slightest draft of air, the clappers 13 will be actuatedto produce a plurality of tonesand musical sounds which will be exceedingly pleasing to the ear.
The structure itself may be handsomely formed and colored, to represent floral objects, so that it will be exceedingly attractive and pleasing to the eye.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:- f
