WILLIAM w. SALE, or SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
ARTICLE or MANUFACTURE.
Application filed June 25. 1923. Serial No. 47,521.
Washin ton have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in an Article of Manufacture, of which the following is a specification. I a
My invention relates to improvements in 10 an article of manufacture in the nature of an inexpensive and simple novelty that is adapted to be given away as'a favor and "the ob ect of my invention is to provide a novel and attractive .favor embodying a 15, combined paper cap or bag like covering and an ornamentally decorated toy balloon,
the balloon being connected with the uppermost portion of the cap. 7
Another object is to provide a favor in the nature of a combined toy balloon and a cap that is collapsible andmay be packed into a very small space. V A further object is to provide an article of manufacture of" this nature in whichthe tip or nozzle through which the toy balloon may beinflated is disposed on the interior of the cap and is entirely concealed thereby.
I accomplish these objects by devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a favor constructed in accordance with my invention showing the cap opened and the toy balloon inflated; and I be painted, printed or stamped to simulate a face and mayghave tabs 5 of rubber or other material connected thereto to simulate the ears that form 'a part of the face.
The neck 6 of the balloon 3 is preferably Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view ilpassed through a Wooden fitting 7 thence turned back over .the' exterior of said fitting and secured thereto in a well'known manner, as shown in Fig. 2, sothat the balloon neck 6 may be closed to prevent the passage of air therethrough by twisting the balloon relative to the fitting 7. The cap or bag member 4 may be made of tubular form and the open top end maybe gathered around the exterior of the fitting 7 and secured thereto as by a rubber band 8.
The cap 4 is preferably made of relatively light, strong crepe or tissue paper and may have an ornamental band 9' around the bottom to give the same a finished appearance.
If desired advertising matter may be inscribed on the I balloon outside of the decorated area or it may be placed thereon without any decorations. The decorated balloon serves as an ornament and combines wlth the cap in such a manner as to produce an unusually attractive and novel favor.
When the balloon is deflated the balloon and cap may be folded into a very small and compact package forhandling and shipment. When in use the balloon may be inflated or blown to any desired size. The neck of the balloon is entirely concealed within the cap so that the balloonappears perfectly spherical when inflated. Vhen the balloon is not inflated it may be practically concealed within that portion ofthe cap above the rubber band 8.
The cap may beworn 011 the head in the usual manner thus giving the wearer the appearance of having a secondary grotesque head above his own head or suehcap may be used as an ornamental covering for an article that is to be concealed as av desk telephone, or it may be used as an ornament upon a bureau or dressing table.
The foregoing description and accompanying drawings clearly disclose what I now consider to be a preferred embodiment "of my. invention but it Wlll be understood that the disclosure is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made as are within the scope of the following claim.
lVhat I claim is:
In an article of manufacture, a favor comprising an ornamentally decorated, toy balloon, gr rigid tubular fitting member ar ranged to. have th neck of the ball passed therethrough and then turned back over the outside thereof and made fast whereby relative twisting movement of the balloon and the fitting member. will close the air passageway in the neck of the half 10011 and a bag like paper receptacle having one end. gathered around and secured t said fitting and forming a cap arranged to be Worn on the head.
In Witness whereof I hereunto subscribe my name this 20th day of. June, A. D. 1923.
WILLIAM W. SALE.
