To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, MARY M. BUcHHoLz and ll IARY A. MnnLor, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented new and useful improvements in Supporters, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to supporters the object in view being to provide a combined waist, bust and hose supporter which is designed to be worn in place of the ordinary corset, the device being adapted to sustain the weight of the several articles of wearing apparel directly from the shoulders instead of placing the weight upon the hips and abdomen, the device also acting in the nature of a brace, the tendency being to hold the shoulders back and cause the wearer to maintain an erect position, being especially useful in this connection for girls or children and adults who are inclined to be round-shouldered.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement herein fully described, illustrated and claimed.

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the supporter embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is an inside elevation of one of the side portions of the supporter. Fig. 1 is a detail horizontal section taken on line l4 of Fig. 3, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the supporter shown applied to the person.

The supporter is composed of any suitable textile material and has the general shape and appearance of a corset, the back 1 of the supporter, in the preferred embodiment of the invention being left plain while the front 2 thereof is vertically plaited as shown in Figs. 1 and 5 to impart additional stiffness thereto for the proper support of the person. The supporter as a whole is preferably trimmed or bound around its top and bottom edges with braid as shown at 3 and the front and back portions of the supporter are connected by elastic shoulder straps 4 whereby the weight of the supporter and the weight carried by the supporter is sus JGIIClQCl from the wearer's shoulders. The front of the supporter is centrally divided vertically as shown and the edges are arranged to overlap and pro vided with buttons and button-holes as shown at 5 to enable the supporter to be secured upon the person.

A draw-string 6 is secured in a hem 7 along the lower edge of the back 1 of the article and is of sufficient length to pass around the waist and have such ends tied together at the front of the garment as shown in Fig. 5. It will be noted that the bottom edge of the front of the article is arched as shown at 8 to extend up and over the abdomen so as to avoid undue weight and pressure thereon.

At each side the supporter is divided as best shown in Fig. 3 wherein it will be seen that the front and back of the supporter are formed with overlapping side wings 9 and 10. These wings may be overlapped to any desired extent to suit the wearer and after being properly adjusted and fitted, the said overlapping parts may be stitched together as shown at 11 or otherwise connected together.

Extending downwardly from the back 1 is askirt-supporting flap-12 to which the under skirt may be attached in any convenient manner thus providing for the support of such skirt by the article described, the weight of the skirt being thus carried by the shoulders. Depending from the front of the supporter and at opposite sides and just over the hips are hose supporting straps 13 to which are connected by means of buckles 14, elastic hose supporters 15. Likewise the back 1 is provided with depending hose supporting straps 16 which like the straps 13 are provided with elastic hose supporters 17. The two sets of straps referred to provide for supporting the hose both at the front and back and the weight is thus distributed and suspended directly from the shoulders. If desired one orboth of the overlapping edges at the center of the front of the supporter may be transversely plaited as shown at 18 to additionally stiffen that portion of the front to which the buttons 5 are secured.

It will of course be understood that the supp ortcr hereinabove described may be composed of any suitable or desired material and made in various sizes and that the proportions of parts may be varied to suit re quirements. invention we comprising a corset embodying back and side portions, the former being provided at its lower edge with a depending flap and the latter being provided with forwardly extending Wings having supporting straps depending from the back portion in rear of and between the aforesaid straps and the said depending flap, a front composed of a pair of Wings having fastening means at their meeting edges the rear edges of said front Wings being coextensive in length with the front edges of the wings of the side portions and arranged to overlap the same and secured thereto throughout their length, shoulder straps uniting the upper extremities of the side portions and front wings, a transverse hem secured along the lower edge of the back portion at its juncture with the flap and extending beyond the sides of the latter to the points of juncture of the rear depending flaps with said back portion, and a draw string extending through said hem and adapted to be passed around the supporter.
