To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED H. HUMrnnnY, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Globes, of which the followmg is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in lamp globes.
My improved lamp globe is especially adapted and designed by me for use on my improved inverted lamps, such as is illus trated in Letters Patent No. 841,323, dated Jan. 15, 1907.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved lamp globe which is adapted to be very readily and securely attached to its supporting band, and when in position the globe is braced against the band when shaken as by a wind or otherwise vibrated.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which: The figure is an ele vation of my improved globe, portions being broken away to better show its form, the globe supporting band being shown in section.
Referring to the drawing, the body 1 of the globe is preferably spherical in form, as illustrated, and is provided with an attaching flange adapted to be inserted into the supporting band 2, and secured therein by means of the screws 3. The attaching flange is provided with a cylindrical portion at its base adapted to fit the supporting band, and above its cylindrical portion, the flange is curved inwardly and thence outwardly to form an annular groove 5 with which the screws 3 engage.
The upper edge of the attaching flange is turned inwardly, thereby forming a bead G, the bead being also adapted to fit the band 2. This flange is capable of withstanding very great strain, and is, therefore, not easily broken. And, further, the edge of the Specification of Letters Patent.

flange being turned inwardly, is not likely to be engaged or hit on the edge of the supporting band, or other object, in adjusting which might chip or break the same or crack the globe, and by thus shaping the globe is guided into position and the round edge permits it to slide to the projection on the inside of the band such as the securing screw or the like. A further advantage of this construction is that the globe is very securely held in its supporting band so that it is not likely to rattle from vibration of the lamp, or when exposed to the wind.
While I prefer to use the screws 3 as a securing means for the globe, as such means are in common use, other .means of securing the attaching flange to the globe supporting band might be provided, but as such modifications and attaching means will be understood by those skilled in the art to which this invention relates, I have not attempted to illustrate the same herein.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. The combination with a globe supporting band, of a globe having an attaching flange adapted to be inserted into said band, said flange being provided wit-h a cylindrical portion at its base adapted to fit said band, and being curved inwardly and thence outwardly and thence inwardly to form an annular groove-like portion above said cylindrical portion and a bead-like. edge, said bead-like edge being adapted to fit said band; and screws arranged through said band to engage said groove of said attaching flange.
2. The combination with a globe supporting band, of a globe having an attaching flange adapted to be inserted into said band, said flange being provided with a cylindrical portion at its base adapted to fit said band, and being curved inwardly and thence outwardly and thence inwardly to form an annular groove-like portion above said cylindrical portion and a bead-like edge; and means for securing said attaching flange to said supporting band.
3. As a new article of manufacture, a globe having an attaching flange comprising a cylindrical portion, an annular groove and a bead-like edge, said cylindrical portion being at the base of said flange, said flange being curved inwardly and thence out Wardly and thence inwardly to form said my hand and seal in the presence of two groove and sand bead-llke edge. wltnesses.
