To all whom it may concern: Y lleit known that I, BYRON J. HAR'rwELL, a citizen of the United Sta-tes, residing at Salt Lake City,'i'n the county of Salt Lake4 and Sta-te of Utah, have invented cert-ain new Iand useful Improvements in Can-Covers, of which the following is a specification.
The purpose of. my invention is to provide a cover for milk cans and the like, which will close said cans, will furnish an ice receptacle within said cans, will allow air to enter said oansand is easily cleaned. These objects l attain by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which similar numerals lof reference indicate like parts throughout the several gures, and as described in the following specication.

Within the neck l, of a can is fitted the member 2, which has a portion thereof cylindrical 'in form, which portion fits closely within the neck l of the can, the other portion being formed as a funnel. On the periphery of said member 2 are provided two lugs, 8, a portion of 4each lug beingbent to engage with the handle of the device. Within the member 2 is placedwthe cooling reservoir or ice receptacle, 4, cylindrical in general shape and outwardly anged at the top, said ianged portion'having the same angle `as the funnel shaped part of'member 2.
The cylindrical portion of said cooling reservoir 4 has a bottom ltherefor, and is dia-A mtrically less than-the cylindrical portion of said member 2, and is spaced from the cylindrical shaped part of member 2 by the vertical iugs 5, lwhich are secured on the outer wall of saidv cooling reservoir to pre` vent displacement of said reservoir in said member 2, and to permit air to enter the can, or the same eHect may be secured by indentation 9 on thecylindrically :shaped part of member 2, thus forming the spacing lugs on member 2 instead 'of .on the outer wall of the ice receptacle 4.1 The lower portion `of said cooling reservoir et is spirally corrugated, the purpose being to provide Umore cooling surface on that Ipart of said Specification of Letters Patent.

cover 6 is bent upward to conform with the flange portion of member 2 and reservoir 4, and is fitted with a iange that lits closely over the peripherie rim of said member 2 to prevent dust or deleterious matter from entering the can. A handle 8, is secured to the cover 6, the end portions of said handle being bentv orA formed to engage the lugs 8 and to lock the device together when the cover is turnedto make said engagement;
The purpose of the cylindrical portion of member 2 is to close said can, the lugs 5, or indentations 9, being spaced apart so that air may enter said can 'through the space between member 2 and the cooling reservoir 4. The purpose of the cooling reservoir et made to receive crushed ice is obvious, being to control the temperature thereby of the contents of said can.
