LEVI E. ALLEN, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
CUFF-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lnvi E. ALLEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented new and useful improvements in Cuff-Holders, off which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined cuff holder and cutf button securer and the object of the invention is to provide a simple, cheap and eli'ective device of this character which may be readily applied and quickly detached.
Another object of the invention is to provide a combined cuff holder and anti button securer with a slidable but-ton adapted to secure the wrist band of a shirt sleeve when t he securer is in applied. position, the button being so arranged as to adjust itself to agree with the various lengths of cutl's.
With these and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention illustrating the same in applied position. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the device. Fig. 3 is an end view of the same. Fig. e is a sectional view upon the line -td of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a sectional view upon the line 5-'' of Fig. 3.
The improved combined cuff holder and cuif button securer comprises a flat rectanguar body member 1. This body member 1 has one of its ends provided with an elongated slot 2 having a transverse opening or passage communication with one edge of the body. Pivotally secured to the body 1 adj acent the L-shaped slot 2 is a keeper member This keeper member 3 has its forward end provided with a reduced finger corresponding inwidt-h to that of the body between the longitudinal wall of the L-shaped slot and the outer edge of the body, whereby when the keeper 3 swung into closed position only the passage of tie slot communirating with the edge of the body is closed, or it may slide on body 1 without the slot t.
The body 1 is also n'ovided with a centrally arranged longitudinally extending slot r. and this slot is adapted for the reception of the shank of a button 6. The lower portion of the shank 5 is provided with a Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 30, 1908.
Serial No. 441,0.
base 7 having its ends upturned and bent over the body 1, so as to provide means whereby the button may be rigidly secured upon the body and yet allowed to slide the length of the slot 1, so that the button may be adjusted to agree with the various sizes or lengths of cuffs to which the device is attached.
The end of the body opposite that of the slot 2 is provided with a spring catch 8, which is adapted to engage the sleeve of the shirt above the wrist band thereof.
In applying the improved device to a shirt sleeve and cufls, the button 6 is first engaged in the button holes provided by the wrist band of the shirt sleeves, the hook provided by the slot 2 is secured between the heads of a cutf button, the keeper swung to retain the hook in engaged position, and the spring catch 8 attached to the sleeve of the shirt above the wrist band after the cuff has been raised to proper position. By allowing the body 1 to slide upon the shank of the button (3 it will be seen that the cutf may be raised or lowered as desired and thereby adjusted to suit the taste of the wearer.
From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be noted that the button (3 may be readily positioned within the buttonholes ot' the wristband of a shirt, thus securely connecting the ends of the wristband and that the wearer thereby has its wristbands securely fastened and the cuff holder readily accessible for connecting the cuff with the wristband when desired, it being understood that it is frequently desirable to detach the cutfs without necessitating the opening of the wristbands."
It will be noted that when the cuff is removed from the device, the spring catch 8 is disengaged and the body of the device .drawn upwardly within the wrist band the length of the slot 4, thus effectively conceal.- ing the device and at the same time retain ing the device upon the sleeve so that it may be readily connected with a cuff when desired.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new is:
In a cu'tf retainer, an elongated body memher having one of its ends provided with a right angularly arranged spring pressed cap, its opposite end provided with a bayonet slot and its central portion being provided with Patented Aug. 31, 1909.
an elongated opening, a pivoted keeper member upon the member adapted to close the transverse opening communicatingwith the longitudinal opening of the bayonet slot, a button member having its shank positioned in the elongated slot provided by the body member, and said shank being provided With a plate extending transversely of the body LEVI E. ALLEN.
