This invention is a corsage clip or corsage holder.

The primary objects of the invention are to provide a corsage holder which will be distinctly 5 ornamental and capable of use with evening dresses, and which from the mechanical point of view, can be readily secured to the dress of the wearer, and which will hold the corsage quite securely without any possibility of it slipping out of the holder.

With these objects in View, the corsage holder comprises an elongated base member which is provided with a plurality of clasps hinged thereto, which may be readily opened and closed and These clasps are adapted to encircle the stem of the corsage; they are, of course, readily visible and therefore are preferably ornamented in a suitable way, as by the use of precious stones or the like.

In order to prevent any possibility of slippage of the corsage in the holder, a plurality of pointed posts is provided along the base member, positioned just under the several clasps so as to be bridged over by them.

The free ends of the clasp members engage with automatically operating latching devices, the clasps snapping into engagement with the latches when they are pressed to the closed position. The clasps are readily releasable by the use of the finger. The back of the base member is provided with a pin fastener for fastening the holder in place on the dress of the wearer, which pin fastener is provided with a loss preventing device.

Other objects and features of structure and operation will be clear from the accompanying drawing illustrating the present preferred embodiment of the invention in which:

Referring now to these figures, in which similar reference characters indicate similar parts, the corsage holder comprises an elongated base member 2, which may be slotted for lightness, as indicated at 4, and is provided with laterally extending shelf- like extensions 6, 8 and 10.

Hinged or otherwise pivotally secured along one edge of the base member 2, preferably on the ends of the extensions 6, 8 and 10, is a plurality of arcuate clasp members 12, 14 and 16, the hinges of which are indicated at 12, 14 and 1934, Serial No. 705,268

16'. These pivoted clasps swing in a plane perpendicular to the long axis of the base. These clasps preferably consist of a pair of channeled members set closely together; in the channels 7 of these members may be set ornamental stones, such as diamonds, sapphires, rhinestones, etc. These clasps may be ornamented in any other way that seems desirable. The clasps are shown as arcuate and nearly semi-circular. While this shape is preferred, other shapes could be used; the clasp could be made up of straight segments,

as by the use of a portion of a pentagon, hexagon or octagon.

The free ends of the clasps are provided each with a latching tongue 18, which tongues pass through apertures 20 along the other edge of the base member preferably in the other ends of the shelf portions 6, 8 and 10, and pass into engagement with a latch member now to be described.

This latch member, which is on the underside of the base, opposite the clasps, comprises a housing 22 in which a latching pin 24 reciprocates, in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the holder, being urged to the latching position by the spring 26. Tongue 24 is provided 30 with a head 28 which projects slightly below the housing so that it can be readily engaged with the finger nail and the latch moved endwise. The latching end of the tongue 24 which engages with the latching tongue 18 is beveled as at 30, so that when the latching tongue presses against it, it will pushed back and will automatically snap into latching engagement with the tongue.

Gn the underside of the corsage clip there is provided a pin fastener 32, hinged at 34 at one of the base members. The pin extends longitudinally of the base, the free end being engageable with a hook 34 provided with a safety latch or loss preventing device 36.

Positioned on the top of the base is a plurality of pins or pointed posts 40, in a position to be bridged by the respective clasp members, the purpose of the pins or posts being to pierce the stem of the corsage and so prevent it slipping endwise out of the corsage clip.

There is thus provided a corsage holder which is first of all distinctly ornamental and pleasing to the eye, which is an important requisite in an article of jewelry of this sort; the holder retains the corsage very securely by virtue of the three arcuate clasps and the pointed posts; the clasps can be readily snapped into position over the stem of the corsage simply by pressing the arcuate clasps to the closed position, the clasps a being automatically latched in the closed position. The corsage clip can be readily fastened to the dress by means of the pin fastener, the unintentional disengagement of the pin fastener being prevented by the safety device 36. The several clasps can be readily disengaged from the stem of the corsage by engaging the finger nail with the head 28.

While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been described in some detail, it should be understood that the invention is not to be limited to the precise details shown, but may be carried out in other ways, as falling within the scope of the claims.

I claim as my invention:

1. A corsage pin or the like, comprising in combination a base member, an arcuate clasp member positioned on one side of the base member and hinged thereto, a securing pin on the other side of the base member and extending longitudinally thereof, and finger operated latch means on said opposite side of the base member.

2. A corsage pin or the like, comprising in combination a base member, an arcuate clasp member positioned on one side of the base memher and hinged thereto, a pointed post secured to the base and bridged by the clasp member, a securing pin on the other side of the base memher and extending longitudinally thereof, and finger operated latch means on said opposite side of the base member.

3. A corsage pin or the like, comprising in combination a base member, an arcuate clasp positioned on one side of the base member and hinged thereto, a latching tongue at the free end of the clasp member, and latching means on the other side of the base member, the base being provided with a passage therethrough for enabling the latching tongue to go into engage-- ment with said latching means.

4. A corsage pin or the like, comprising in combination a base member, an arcuate clasp positioned on one side of the base member and hinged thereto, a pointed post secured to the base and bridged by the clasp member, a latching tongue at the free end of the clasp member, and latching means on the other side of the base member, the base being provided with a passage therethrough for enabling the latching tongue to go into engagement with said latching means.

A corsage pin or the like, comprising in combination a base member, an arcuate clasp positioned on one side of the base member and hinged thereto, a latching tongue at the free end of the clasp member, latching means on the other side of the base member, the base being provided with a passage therethrough for enabling the latching tongue to go into engagement with said latching means, and a pin fastener positioned on said other side of the base member.

A corsage pin or the like, comprising in combination, a base member, an arcuate clasp positioned on one side of the base member and hinged thereto, a pointed post secured to the base and bridged by the clasp member, latching means on the other side of the base member, the base being provided with a passage therethrough for enabling the latching tongue to go into engagement with said latching means, and a pin fastener positioned on said other side of the base member.

A corsage pin or the like, comprising in combination a base member, an arcuate clasp positioned on one side of the base member and hinged thereto, a latching tongue at the free end of the clasp member, and spring operated, finger controlled, automatically closing latching means on the other side of the base member, the base being provided with a passage therethrough for enabling the latching tongue to go into engagement with said latching means.

8. A corsage pin or the like, comprising in combination a base member, an arcuate clasp positioned on one side of the base member and hinged thereto, a latching tongue at the free end of the clasp member, spring operated, finger controlled, automatically closing latching means on the other side of the base member, the base being provided with a passage therethrough for enabling the latching tongue to go into engagement with said latching means, and a pin fastener positioned on said other side of the base member.

9. A corsage pin or the like, comprising in combination a base member, an arcuate clasp positioned on one side of the base member and hinged thereto, a pointed post secured to the base and bridged by the clasp member, a latching tongue at the free end of the clasp member, and spring operated, finger controlled, automatically closing latching means on the other side of the base member, the base being provided with a passage therethrough for enabling the latching tongue to go into engagement with said latching means.

10. A corsage pin or the like, comprising in combination a base member, an arcuate clasp positioned on one side of the base member and hinged thereto, a pointed post secured to the base and bridged by the clasp member, a latching tongue at the free end of the clasp member, spring operated, finger controlled, automatically closing latching means on the other side of the base 1 member, the base being provided With a passage therethrough for enabling the latching tongue to go into engagement with said latching means, and a pin fastener positioned on said other side of the base member.

11. A corsage pin or the like, comprising in combination an elongated base member, an arcu-, ate clasp member hinged to the base at one edge thereof and movable in a plane substantially perpendicular to the base, and slidable latch means, reciprocable on a line substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the base, for latching the free end of the clasp member.

12. A corsage pin or the like, comprising in combination an elongated base member, an arcuate clasp member hinged to the base at one edge thereof and movable in a plane substantially perpendicular to the base, a pointed post carried on one side of the base in a position to be bridged by the clasp member, and finger operable, automatically closeable latch means, positioned on the other side of the base, and reciprocable on a line substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the base, for latching the free end of the clasp member.

13. A corsage pin or the like, comprising in combination an elongated base member, an arcuate clasp member hinged to the base at one edge thereof and movable in a plane substantially perpendicular to the base, a pointed post carried on one side of the base in a position to be bridged by the clasp member, finger operated, automatically closeable latch means, positioned on the other side of the base, and reciprocable on a line substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the base, for latching the free end of the clasp member, and a pin fastener hinged to the base on said other side thereof and extending longitudinally thereof.

A corsage pin comprising an elongated base member, a plurality of arcuate clasp members arranged along the base, at one side thereof, each being hinged to one edge of the base and swingable in a plane perpendicular to the base, latching devices carried by the base and enageable with the free ends of the clasp members, and a pin fastener positioned on the other side of the base and extending longitudinally thereof, substantially coextensively with said clasp members.

15. A corsage pin comprising an elongated base member, a plurality of arcuate clasp members arranged along the base, at one side thereof, each being hinged to one edge of the base and swingable in a plane perpendicular to the base, latching devices carried by the base and enageable with the free ends of the clasp members, pointed posts carried by the base, so positioned as to be bridged by the clasp members when they are in closed position, and a pin fastener positioned on the other side of the base and extending longitudinally thereof, substantially coextensively with the said clasp members.

16. A corsage pin comprising an elongated base member, a plurality of arcuate clasp members arranged along the base, on one side thereof, each being hinged to one edge of the base and swingable in a plane perpendicular to the base, spring operated latching devices carried on the opposite side of the base for engagement with the free ends of the clasps, said latching devices being reciprocable along lines perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the base, pointed posts carried by the base, so positioned as to be bridged by the clasp members when they are in closed position, and a pin fastener positioned on the other side of the base and extending longitudinally thereof, substantially coextensively with the said clasp members.

A corsage holder for encircling and gripping the stem of the corsage, comprising an elongated base, a plurality of arcuate clasp members pivoted to the base and movable transversely with respect to the long axis of the base, the outer ends of the clasp members coming substantially into contact with the other edge of the base, and at least one post placed so as to penetrate the stem of the corsage when it is in place in the holder.

18. A corsage holder or the like comprising in combination elongated base means; and means, comprising at least two arcuate clasp members, pivoted to swing transversely with respect to the long axis of the base, into and out of operative position about the stem of the corsage, one of said means being provided with a post for penetrating and holding the stem of the corsage.

19. A corsage holder or the like, comprising in combination elongated base means; a securing pin on one side of the base means and extending longitudinally thereof; means, comprising at least two arcuate clasp members pivoted to swing transversely of the base into and out of operative position about the stem of the corsage, and a post, carried by one of said means, for penetrating the stem of a corsage, when the corsage is in position in the holder.

20. A corsage holder or the like, comprising in combination an elongated base, means for securing the corsage holder in place on the garment of the wearer, and at least two arcuate clasp members pivoted along a side edge of the base, each clasp member being pivoted to swing in a plane substantially perpendicular to the long axis of the base, and means for holding the clasp members in operative position around the stem of the corsage.

A corsage holder or the like, comprising in combination an elongated base, a securing pin on one side of the base and extending lengthwise thereof, and at least two arcuate clasp members pivoted to the base and cooperating with the opposite side thereof, the clasp members moving in a plane substantially perpendicular to the long axis of the base.

22. A corsage holder or the like, comprising in combination an elongated base, a securing pin on one side of the base and extending lengthwise thereof, at least two arcuate clasp members pivoted to the base and cooperating with the opposite side thereof, the clasp members moving in a plane substantially perpendicular to the long axis of the base and means for holding the arcuate clasp members in operative position around the stem of the corsage.

23. A corsage holder or the like, comprising in combination elongated base means, the base means being provided with lateral extensions at each end thereof, a plurality of arcuate clasp means hinged to said lateral extensions at one end thereof and swingable transversely with respect to the long axis of the base, so that the free ends of the arcuate clasp means are adapted to contact the other ends of said lateral extensions, and at least one post placed so as to penetrate the stem of the corsage when in place in the holder.

24. A corsage holder or the like, comprising in combination an elongated base member, a securing pin on one side of the base and extending lengthwise thereof, lateral extensions at either end of the base, extending outwardly and laterally from both sides of said base member, arcuate clasp members, each hinged to one end of one of said lateral extensions, on the side opposite said securing pin and swingable transversely of the base toward and away from the other end of the respective lateral extension, at least one of said members being provided with a pointed post for penetrating the stem of the corsage when in place in the holder.
