Leners Patent No. 93,112, dazed-July 27, 1869; mama July 24,1869.
'IMPnovnnmNT IN 'Doon-LATC'HES. y
Mora-. The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and-making p art of the Same.
To all whom'tt may concern Be it known that I, JACB MOSER, of `Mendota, in. the county of La Salle, and Stateof Illinois, have invented a newand useful Improvement in Door-latches; and I do hereby declare that the following is a'fu1l,clear,
and exact description of the same, reference being had ,Y
to the annexed drawings, making part of 'this specification, in which- Figure l isV a perspective view, showing the insideof two doors, one showing in perspective a vertically'- acting latch, and the other showing a horizontally-act- Fig'ure 2 is alongitudinal section. Figure -3 is an elevation of the plate on the outside' of the door.
The same letters in both gures are used for the indication of the ,same parts.
My invention consists 'in the constructionofa latch for doors, &c'., which maybe attached horizontallyor vertically', right or left, andwhich is detached from the atch 'by pulling on the knobuin the act of opening the oor.
In the annexed drawings- A is a metallic case, which enclosesthe latch, and is securedby screws to the door.
The latch-bolt B is J anns-t`aced,` being bevelled on both sides, as shown. 1
The stem,B' projects through a hole in the end of the ease.`
By bevelling the latch-face on both sides, it is provided that the draught upon the knob in opening the door, by biingingthepressure to4 bear upon one ofthe inclined faces, tends to assist the action of the citinplate, whereas if the side opposed to the catch were flat, the pressure against the catch would, by its friction, make it more ditlcnlt to operate the latch in the mannel'- to be hereinafter explained;
The spiral spring C, encircling the stem, projects the tch.
- and'deseribed Alongitudinal slot is formed in the body of the latch, through which passes the camplate D, .which presents its inclined face, as shown in fig. 2,"to the inclined face o f`-.the slot at theend farthest from the point of the latch..
.Eistee knot, ,which is fastened tothe' end o'f che cam-plate, as shown. It is constructed with' lugs Thlouter plate G has notches cut'on the side of the central hole, as shown, through which -thelugs E passwhen they have been passed through the plate G, the knob' E is turned one-fourth around, and the shank of the knob fastened by a screw to the end ttf the-cam-platc D.
. The lugs'serve as stops to regulate theI distance to which the knob can bedrawn.
The latch passing over the catch F, which has an inclined-face, is pushed back iu passing, and fastened,
by the throw ofthe bolt, in the usual manner. vBy'drawing on the. knob E in opening the door, the
cam-plate D presses back the latch-bolt B, disengagiug it from the catch l?.
What I clairnas my invention, and desire to secure *1. The'c'am.-plate D, knob with lugs E', and plate I G; constructed assetforth, and arranged to regulate the movement of lthe platel), substantially as shown -faced latch-bolt B, in combination with the .catch F,.`spring C, and cam-plateD,substan tially as described. l
In" testimony whereof, I have signed I nyname to ythis specication, in the presence otI two subscribingr witnesses. i
JACOB MOSER.
