E. O. RISSE.
I VAPOR BURNER. APPLICATION I'ILED MAY 20, 1Q08.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMILE O. RISSE, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
VAPOR-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug. 10, 1909.
Application filed. May 20, 1908. Serial No. 433,823.
ments in-v'apor-burners; and it consists in the novel details of construction more fully set forth in the specification and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan of a section of a stove-top having my invention applied thereto; and. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 22 of Fig. 1..
The present invention is specially directed to gas-stove burners andhas for its object to construct a burner which will effect a material saving in fuel, one whichwill prevent drafts or air currents from disturbing the flame; one which permits the range to be kept clean, affording ready access to the arts, around the burners; one serviceable or any domestic purpose such as heating curling irons, fiat irons, and the like, and one possessing further and other advantages better apparent from a detailed description. of the invention which is as follows Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a flat stove-top below a suitable opening of which the burner is secured. The burner may be of the star-shape variety comprising a cluster of burner arms a ,a radiating from acommon feed-pipe 2, the latter coupling up in front of the stove to a common supply-pipe P which supplies all the burners ,of the series. Cast with the-burner is a casing or inclosing ring or wall 3 which is secured to the stove-top 1, the height or depth of the casingwall being sufiicient to permi thetop 0 the burner to be depressed a suitable distance below the plane of the top, whereby, the flame is protected against drafts, the casing in addition serving to prevent the flame from spreading beyond the range of the vessel or other object placed over the flame.
To prevent overheating of the parts immediately surrounding the flame, I line. the casing walls with asbestos 4 or equivalent heat insulating material such as mineral wool.
The opening formed in the top above the burner may be decreased or enlarged 'at pleasure or wholly covered by suitable rings or lids L as well understood. These form with the top a plane surface which resembles that of an ordinary stove-top which may be readily cleaned and polished as it is all exposed, the burner in no wise interfering.
Such features of construction as may be shown but to which no. reference is made are well known and require no description herein.
Having described my invention, I claim,
In con'lbination with a stove-top having a plane surface and provided with an opening,a burner comprising a feed-pipe and a series of radiating burner arms spaced apart located opposite the opening and depressed below the plane of the top aforesaid, a casing cast with and encompassing theburner and secured to the under side of the stovetop around the opening, a lining of heat insulting material for the casing, and means for covering the opening along a plane continuous with the outer surface of the stovetop, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
