Be it known. that 1, JAMES T. HEGLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bridle Crown-Pieces; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has for its object to provide an improved bridle crown piece, and to this end, it consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.

Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the improved crown piece, some parts being broken away; Fig. 2 is a section taken approximately on the line a a of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a detail view in plan, showing the socalled buckle-plate of the crown piece; Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the said parts shown in Fig. 3; and Fig. 5 is a plan view showing the slightly modified form of the so-called buckle-plate.

The crown strap or crown piece proper is indicated by the numeral 1, and the bifurcated or divided over check strap is indicated by the numeral 2. The so-called winker brace strap is indicated by the numeral 3. The crown piece loop, is, in this construction, formed by simple strap 4, the ends of which are bent under and inward to form the two loop guides, for the over check strap 2.

The so-called buckle-plate 5 indicated in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, is formed with three arms that terminate in slightly upturned loops 6, 6 and 7. The two loops 6 are alined to each other, while the loop 7 projects forward and occupies the position midway be tween the loops 6. Just inward of the loops 6, 6 and 7, the plate 5 is provided with dowel like lock studs or projections 8, 8 and 9 respectively. Also the buckle-plate 5 has perforations 10 that adapt the same to be secured to the intermediate portion of the crown strap 1, by means of rivets 11, indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2.

the dowels or studs 8 are passed through perforations in the said strap, so that the latter is locked in the desired adjustment with its looped ends affording the desired guides for the over check strap 2. By reference to Fig. 2, it will be noted, that the inwardly turned ends of the strap 4 are clamped between the buckle-plate 5 and the overlying body portion of said strap 4, and hence, are securely held in position. It will also be noted that the said inturned ends of strap 4, are so spaced, that they leave an opening between the buckle-plate 5 and the intermediate body portion of said strap 4, through which the upper end of the winker brace strap 3 may be passed and held. The said Winker brace strap 3 is passed through the loop 7 of the buckle-plate 5, and the dowel or stud 9 is inserted into a perforation of the said strap, so that the latter is securely held in its properly adjusted position, it being, of course, understood, that the said strap 3 may have any desired number of perforations for engagement with the dowel 9.

The buckle-plate shown in Fig. 5, is intended for use on a bridle which has no winker brace strap, and is like the above described buckle-plate, except that one arm and the loop 7 are omitted. Otherwise stated, this buckle-plate 5 has two loops 6, two dowel pins 8 and two rivet holes 10.

A device of the kind described, is of small cost and the parts thereof may be very quickly and easily assembled or taken apart or adjusted. The efficiency of the device has been demonstrated in practice. The socalled buckle-plate may be a casting, or it may be stamped from sheet metal.

WVhat I claim is:

1. The combination with a crown strap and an over check strap, of a buckle-plate secured to the former and provided with 00- operating loops and dowels, and a loop strap having its ends bent to form loops affording guides for said over check strap, passed through the loops of said buckle-plate and locked thereto by said dowels, substantially as described.

2. The combination with a crown strap and a bifurcated over check strap, of a buckle-plate secured to said crown strap and provided with three loops and three cooperating dowels, a guide strap having looped ends affording guides for said over check strap, passed through two of the loops and secured by two of the dowel pins of said strap and the body of said buckle-plate, sub= 1-0 buckleplate, With its loose ends clamped bestantially as described.
