W. FARRAR.
HOOK AND EYE- MILICATION FILED FEB. 20. 191?- Patented Nov. 27, 1917'.
whom
@FFIGE.
WALTER FAB/RAB, OF PADUGAH, KENTUCKY.
HOOK AND EYE.
Application filed February 20, 1917.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER FARRAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paducah, in the county of McOracken and State of Kentucky, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hooks and Eyes, of which the following is a specification.
Thi invention relates to hooks and eyes and the object of the invention is to provide a connection of this character which will prevent the marginal edges connected by these parts from gaping.
A further object of the invention is to provide a hook and eye which are so constructed that the eye will not pivot in the hook.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application and in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view showingthe hook and eye connected.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the hook.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the eye.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a peet -loop embodying my invention.
In the specific embodiment of the invention, as illustrated herein, the hook 1 is constructed in the usual manner with the exception that its tongue 2 is slightly depressed so as to produce a restricted opening 3 and an inclined shoulder 4. The eye, indicated at 5, is formed from a singlestrand of wire having loops 6 at opposite ends to receive the usual stitching for attaching the eye to the margin of the garment. The eye is then bent back upon itself to form a substantially U-shaped structure in the bight of which is formed a longitudi- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 27, 191?.
Serial no. 149,883.
nal projection 7 which is of suflicient length when the eye is engaged in the hook to abut against the inclined shoulder 4 and prevent accidental removal of the eye from the hook. The projection having a relatively long hearing upon the body and tongue of the hook prevents the eye from pivoting in the hook and thereby eliminates the disagreeable feature attendant with the use of the ordinary hook and eye, 71. 6., gaping of the marginal edges of the garment. The peet-loop, shown in Fig. 5, is also constructed of a single strand of material bent back upon itself to form a lateral projection 8 between the diverging terminals 9 which have, as usual, the stitching loops 10 formed therein.
The use of the device is obvious and need not further be described.
What i claimed is:
1. In a hook and eye, an eye having means arranged to fit between the tongue and body of the hook for preventing pivoting of the eye upon the hook.
2. In a hook and eye, an eye having a lateral projection formed thereon, said projection arranged to lie between and in engagement with the tongue and body of the hook for holding the hook and eye in a common plane.
3. In a hook and eye, a hook having a tongue formed with a depression adjacent to its terminal, an eye having a projection formed to lie parallel with and interbetween the tongue and body of the hook, said depression forming a shoulder which engages the end of the projection to prevent removal of the eye, and said projection arranged to hold the hook and eye in a common plane.
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature.
WALTER FARRAR.
