WRIST-SUPPOBTER,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 1, 1909.
i Application ied June 15, 1908. Serial No. 438,544.
To all whomfit may concern.'
Be it known that I, .loi-INy JAMES TYRRELL, acitizen of they United States, and resident of Yonkers, in rthe county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in W ristup"y rs, of which ythe following is a specification. y y f f y y This invention relates to wrist supporters, and has specially in view certain novel improvementsy which will permit of the same being drawntightly to its supporting position and be normally vretained in such position Without liability of turning, slipping or subjecting the `wristbone to undue pressure.
With theaboveland other objects in view, the invention contemplates the employment of a broad,`fiat, supporting band, the overlapping Ledges of ywhich carry cooperating .fasteners through which they supporter may fbe adjusted for difierentsizes of wrists, said aso band being vr'also provided with wrist-boneengaging lmeans which f prevent the supporter turningwhen ther same is in its wrist 25,
supporting*,p'osition.`
' lncarrying `out the invention, changes in details and `structural'arrangement may be resorted to, a preferredffand practical embodiment ofwhich is shown in the accompanying drawings, inv which- Figure y1 is a perspective of the wrist supporter, sho'wing'the saine on a wrist. Fig. 2
is a top plan view of the same detached from the wrist. y' Like characters *fof rreference designate corresponding parts. f
In the practical example 'of the invention shown in the accompanying drawings, 10 designates ya broad flat'V wrist supporting band, one lend 11 of which is rounded, the other end 12 being of a tapering and rounded form.`rr The rounded endA 11 has a buckle fastenerl ystitched thereon adjacent to its edge, which carries abuckle 14. A keeper loop 15 `is also stitched to the end port-ion 11,
inner end of the buckle fastener 13.
,Afastener strap 16`has one end 17 stitched to the ,wrist-supporting band 10 preferably ata pointk approximately at the beginning of the taperingfend portion 12,
the arrangement being 'such that substantially all of the said tapering end portion 12 will be free so that the same may be overlapped by the end portion 11 when the band is encircling a wrist. is provided with the usual row of holes 18 with which the bail of the buckle 14 engages.
kA wrist-bone engaging opening 19 is formed through the intermediate portion of the band 10, said opening being preferably circular. Said wrist-bone engaging opening 19 is of a size and is so located. on the band, that when the latter is in its wrist-supporting position, the wrist-bone will protrude through the opening and thereby prevent the band turning or slipping longitudinally on the wrist, or pressing upon the wrist bone.
ln applying the supporter to a wrist, the tapering end portion 12 is placed beneath the rounded end portion 11, and through the strap and buckle connection, the same may be drawn to the desired degree of tightness, with the wrist-bone protruding through the opening 19. lt will thus be seen that all tendency of the band to turn or slip on the wrist will be overcome, and owing to the said opening being larger than the wristbone, the band will not press on the same, and also through the overlapping feature of the ends of the band, there will be practically no edges to be forced into the flesh of the wrist.
While the fastener for the ends of the band has been shown as consisting of a buckle and strap, it will be understood that the invention is not limited to such type of fastener, as it is obvious that any other type of adjustable fastener may be employed.
Claims z- Y 1. A wrist supporter consisting of a broac fiat band the intermediate portion of which has formed therethrough a wrist-bone engaging opening, said band being also provided with overlapping ends, and coperating fastener members carried by said ends.
2. A wrist supporter consisting of a band one yend of which is tapered, said band beingV The fastener' strap 16.
end of the band will be overlapped and the Signed at 37 Liberty street, in the county Wrist bone will protrude through the opening of New York and State of New York this formed in the band. l tenth day of June, A. D. 1908.
3. A wrist supporter consisting of a band l JOHN JAMES TYRRELL.
5 provided with a wrist bone engaging open- W'tnesses:
ing therethrough, and coperatlng fasteners l* EGBERT V. NELSON, carried by the ends of said band. j JOHN M. CULLIS.
