Description

CHARLES HOLMES CALEB, OF NEW BRIGHTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
WINDOW-LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 16, 1909.
Application filed July 13, 1908. Serial No. 443,187.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES HOLMES CALER,aC1l31Z6Il of the United States of America, residing at New Brighton, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in vVindow-Locks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to windowdocks, and the primary object of my invention is to provide a window-lock applicable to windowsashes of various sizes, the lock being easily and quickly manipulated to retain the sashes of a window in a closed position or in a position to which they may be adjusted.
A further obj set of this invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive and durable lock comprising two hinged members adapted to be swung into position to lock the sashes of a window, firmly hold the same, and prevent the window from being surreptitiously opened.
With the above and other objects in view which will more readily appear as the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and .arrangement of parts to be presently described and then specifically claimed.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of my window-lock as applied to window-sashes, Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the same, illustrating the lock in lan, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the inged members of the look.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a window-frame having stop beads 2 for the. stiles 8 of window-sashes admstably 11. The lower hinged member 8 is adapted to be swung outwardly to engage the plate 10 and hold the meeting rails of the sashes together, whereby one sash cannot be elevated or lowered with respect to the other sash. By swinging the loner hinged member inwardly, the sashes can be adjusted v. hereby the upper hinged member vJill engage the plate 10, thus retaining the sashes in a partially open position.
I reserve the right to use a plurality of hinged members that can extend from the meeting rail of the upper sash to the top rail thereof, thereby permitting the sashes to be located in any adjusted position.
I construct my lock of light and durable metal, and vrhile in the drawings forming a partof this application there is illustrated the preferred embodiments of the invention, I would have it understood that the elements therein can be varied or changed viithout departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having now described my invention hat I claim as new, is
In a window-lock, the combination uith a sash stile having recesses in one face thereof, of plates countersunk in said recesses and rovided. n'ith apertured lugs, locking members hinged to said plates, a pintle materially longer in length than. the combined length of the plates and constituting a pivot for said locking member and connecting one plate with the other plate, one of said plates connected to one end of said pintle and the other plate to the other end of the pintle, the said locking members W hen against the plates lying within the recesses in the stile v. ith their outer faces flush with the outer face of the stile, said locking members each movable independently of the other, and an inclined stop plate secured to the sash meeting rail to engage said locking members.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of tvo witnesses.
CHARLES HOLMES CALEB.
