Another object of my invention is to provide an anchor which is exceedingly simple and cheap in construction, and one which is very effective in use. y
With these and other obj ectsin view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and pointed out .in' the claim.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification z-Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved anchor showing it in operative position. Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the anchor. Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view showing the position of the blades.
Referring to the drawing A indicates the body of my improved anchor which is formed of a round steel rod having a flattened apertured upper end A carrying a ring B to which the guy-rope or cable is adapted to be connected. The lower end is sharpened so that it can be driven into the ground as will be hereinafter fully described.
The rod is formed square adjacent its pointed end, to the opposite sides of which aresecured pairs of blades C and D which are tapered and flanged outwardly at their lower endswhich are also sharpened. These blades are welded to the rod, the blades C being secured to the rod above the ends of the blades D so that the blades D will eX- tend down below the blades C, whereby when the Vblades are expanded they will lie in different planes.
In use the anchor is placed in a hole which has previously been bored into the ground with an ordinary earth auger, the blades being in position as shown `in Fig. 2, and by giving the rods a few blows with the sledge hammer, the blades will be forced outwardly as shown in Fig. 1, so as to lock the anchor in the hole, the hole being then filled up.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A post anchor comprising a rod provided with a sharpened end, and a flattened apertured end, a ring secured in the flattened apertured end, said rod having a flattened portion formed thereon adjacent its pointed end, and tapering flexible blades welded to said flattened portion, the ends of two of said blades being on a plane above the ends of the remaining blades.
