To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JosEPH RosENFELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of l/Vayne, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and,

useful Improvements in Gloves; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in gloves, especially of woven or knitted fabric, and particularly to providing a reinforcement for the fingers of said gloves, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.

The object of the invention is to provide simple and efficient means for reinforcing the fingers of gloves formed of fabric in a manner to give the proper shape thereto and avoid undue bulkiness or clumsiness at the reinforced parts.

The above object is attained by the structure illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a plan view, showing a glove involving my invention as it is originally presented wrong side out and before the reinforcing tips or portions extending from the ends of the fingers are turned back thereon to effect a reinforcement thereof. Fig. 2 is a plan of the completed glove reversed or turned right side out so as to conceal the reinforcement. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section as on line 3-3 of Fig. 1, before the reinforcing portion has been turned back onto the finger. Fig. 4 is a similar section after the reinforcement has been made to embrace the end of {the finger. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section through the completed glove turned right side out as on line 5-5 of Fig. 2. Fig. 6 is a fragmentary view in perspective of the end of one of the fingers showing a curved line of stitching which is employed to close the end of the finger at the junction of the reinforcement therewith. Fig. 7 is an enlarged transverse section as on line 77 of Fig. 1.

Referring to the characters of reference, 1 designates the glove which is provided with the tubular fingers 2 and thumb 3. Said. fingers are preferably of uniform diameter and at the terminals thereof are provided with the reinforcing extensions 4 which are integral with the fingers proper, and which are preferably of a reduced thickness, as clearly shown in Fig. 3.

To close the ends of the fingers they are stitched through as shown at 5 on a curved line extending from edge to edge thereof giving a rounded shape to the ends of the fingers and separating the fingers proper from the reinforcing extensions.

After the ends of the fingers have been closed by the curved line of stitching, the projecting reinforcements are turned back onto the fingers, as shown in Fig. 4, thereby reinforcing the fingers at the ends by rendering them at that point of double thickness, increasing the wearing qualities of the glove and protecting the ends of the fingers against cold.

The gloves are made up wrong side out as will be understood andafter the reinforcing portions have been turned back onto the ends of the fingers and their margins secured, the glove is reversed orturned right side out, as shown in Fig. 2, so as to present a smooth exterior appearance and conceal the reinforcing parts.

If desired, the body of the glove may be reinforced by providing a reinforcing portion. 6 therefor, which may be turned onto the body part of the glove, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. It will also be evident that the reinforcement for the fingers may be made to extend the entire length thereof, if desired.

By making the fingers tubular in form and forming the reinforcing portions integral therewith and of the same diameter as the finger portions, and stitching the opposite walls of the finger portions together on a curved line to close said tubular portions and form the ends or terminals of the fingers, a simple and inexpensive means is provided for reinforcing the ends of the fingers and giving to the ends of the fingers the necessary rounded shape.

Having thus fully set forth my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A glove having a finger of tubular form provided with a reinforcing extension contiguous with said finger and cylindrical in shape, the opposite walls of the finger being stitched together upon a transverse line to close the end of the finger at the juncture of the reinforcing portion therewith, forming of said reinforcing portion a tubular czip Whichis turned back onto the end of the finger over said line of stitching.

2. A glove havingthe fingers thereof pr0- vided with integral reinforcing extensions of less thickness than the body of the lingers and cylindrical in form, the Walls of the fingers at the junction of the reinforcing extensions being stitched together on a curved line 10 extending transversely of the fingers to form the finger ends, the tubular reinforcing eX- tensions being turned back over the finger ends and over said lines of stitching and secured to the body of the fingers.
