STORAGE-GABINET.
Specification of Letters Patent. I
Patented Au .,11, 1908.
Application filed June 2, 1908. Serial m. 436,287.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, USHER W. MASHTAB, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borou h of Manhattan, in the county and State of ew York, have invented a new and Im roved Storage-Cabinet, of which the following is a full, clear, and
exact description.
This invention relates to storage cabinets, and more particularly such as are adapted to be used in connection with y the storing of cigars in boxes, and which are provided with means for keepin the cigars moist.
The object of t 's invention is to provlde a storage cabinet, inexpensive to manufacturemg perforated walls spaced from the sides of the casing, and ventilating openings, this construction facilitating the circulation of the moistened air.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly setforth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in wh ch similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view showin an embodiment of the invention; Fi 2 is a ongitudinal section of the same, on t e line 22 of Fig. 3; Fig. 3 is a cross section .on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the moistening tray, having a part broken away.
Before proceeding toa more detailed description of my invention, it should be understood hat I provide a storage cabinet, particularly adapted for containing ci ars and which is provided with a tray fil ed with moistening material, so that the cigars will not become too dry The cabinet is further provided with per orated walls, spaced from the sides thereof, so that the moistened a1r from the tra may pass freelyabout the cigars. Vent' ating openin s are located in the sides .of the casing so t at fresh air may pass into the cabinets, while the impure air,
caused by the fermentation of the cigars, can
escape therefrom.
Referring more'particularly to the drawings, I provide acasing 1 having aframe 2 and having walls 3, of sheet metal or the like,
the latter being suitably secured to the frame 2. A door 4 consisting of a frame 5, having a sheet metal covering 6, is arranged to swing u on hinges 7 at the front of the cabinet. T e door carries a spring catch 8 ada ted to engage a keeper 9 on the outside of t e casing, to, secure the door in a closed osition.
Slidably arranged on the lower frame members of the casing is a tray 10, having an upwardly disposed flange 11. a suitable moisture-retaining material 12 such as asbestos, felt or the like, a perforated plate 13 being removably positioned above the material to hold the latter in lace. A ring 14 is provided at the front of t e tray so that it may be slidably withdrawn, for receiving a moistening fluid. The tray is arranged I on the frame members of the casing so that it leaves an air space between the sides and bottom of the casing and the tray, whereby the air can circulate freely around the latter. Arranged above the tray, upon horizontal frame members, is a perforated flooring 15, upon which are mounted two walls 16 extending to thetop of t 1e casing. These perforated walls are suitably spaced from the walls 3 of the casing to permit of an even circulation of the moistened an. Openings 17 are located in the walls of the casing to facilitate the circulation within the casing. As before mentioned, the air in circulating erforated The tray carries has an absolutely free passage between the perforated walls and the casing, and between the tray and the casing. Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1, A storage cabinet, comprising a casing, perforated walls within said casing and spaced therefrom, a perforated flooring, and a tray adapted to contain moistened material and slidably arranged under said flooring.
2. A storage cabinet, comprising a'casing, perforated side walls within said casing and spaced therefrom, a perforated flooring, a tray arranged under said flooring, and means for slidably spacing said tray from the bottom and sides of said casing, whereby a ventilating space is effected.
3. A storage cabinet, comprising a casing having ventilating, openings, perforated aced therewalls within said casing and s a tray slidfrom, a perforated flooring, an
ably located under said flooring and adapted I to receive a moistened being spaced from the bottom and sides of I said casing, whereby a free circulation of air between said perforated walls and said cas- 5 ing, and said tray and said casing is effected,
said tray bein said flooring.
g open at the side adjacent to In testimony whereof I have signed my material, said tray name to this specification in the presence of 10 two subscribing witnesses.
