Description
PATENTE-D AUG. 11, 1908.
UNITED STATES PATENT oEEioE.
EMIL WEIL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COVERED Ensim.` f
county of Kings :ind Stute of New York` l:=i vciiivelited certain new und useful Improvements in Covered Frames, of which the` iollowing is n specification.
In the elnss of covered frames or buckles used iis ornaments upon shoes heretofore eniployed and :is known to nie, the tinisliing piece of lenthenlying in line with the opening in the freine hns been loose rind uniittnched :it its edges whereby such piece is liable to become bent and sometimes detached, :ind oneobject of in v invention is to provide a covered frame. iii which the inner finishing ieee will be permanently secured in place in ine with the opening in the freine.
In'cnrryinf`r out niy invention I rovide a. freine having an inner or rentra opening with n piece of leather or other suitable insterinl that lies` ngininst one face of the trarne find extends in line with'nnd closes such inner opening of the freine, und upon the opposite fece of the friinie I provide :i strip oi inuit-rial.
whose inner and outer edges respectively extend within and without the edges of the vfra-ine und are stitched ,to the tirst ininied piece., whereby the frnnie is inelosed and concealed within said pieces of ineterinl and :ill the ports nre securely held together so that the piece lying in line with the o iening of the. freine is prevented from beingr displaced and ke itfroni being bent or injured.
n the. franies or buckles l here mentioned,
as known to nie, it has been eustoinnrv to provide an attncliiirgr b-.ir on the inner side of the frame, extending across the saine by ineens of which the freine has' been secured to a shoe, but such bars frequently becoine broken in use and the frame drops oil' the shoe. According to 'iny invention I secure eyes to opposite sides of the freine, which eyes may be formed of suitable. inetni, :ind which eyes project. through openings or siots iii one of the covering pieces of thc'friiine and are in posit-ion to be readily stitched to the appropriate parts of n shoe, whereby the renie is securely attached to the shoe and thc part-s :ne not lisible to he broken, :ind thus e.- bzir that usuellyextends across the instep is eliminated.
Reference is to be had to the sceoinpsnying drawings foriningpnrt hereof, wherein,

Specification o! Letters Patent.
Application filed Hay 2li, 1908. Serial No. 434,466.
:in enlarged scale, of n frame embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is e. vertical section on the line 2, 2, in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a. reverse View of Fig. l, on u reduced seule, f is :in inner face. view of the traine withoutI the Covering, and Fig. 5 is n. perspective view illustrnt-ing iny ini iroveinents in position on n. shoe.
' Similar nunieruls of reference indicaite corresponding pnrts in the several views.
At 1 is indicated n frame. provided with the eentml opening 1, which frnine may be nitide of suitable sheet metal, and at 2 is a filling and finishing piece of leather or other suitable iiniterinl which is shown placed against the inner fece of frame 1 und extending beyond seid [renie :it 2", and nisoextendiiw across ui. l in line with the opening l*l of snit frfiine,so :is to close said opening to permit the material .2 to be seen through the openin.-
At 3 is a. facing or-tinishinfsr piece of leather or other suitable iiniteriiil cutto follow the outline of ltrame l in ring-like forni and lying over the outer hice thereof, nnd having its Outcredge 3 ertcndingz,` beyond the outer edge of freine l :ind overlying the edge 2, and the inner edge 3" extends a suitable distnnee withinthe inner edge of freine 1. The edges 2, 3, outside of frame 1 nre secured together by stitches 4 zi'nd the inner edge 3b of iinishing piece 3 is secured to the opposed piece within the inner edge. of frame 1 by' stitches 5, all whereby the several parts are secured tovether, the frnnie is concealed and securely he d in place, und' a finely finished freine is produce-d, with the materie-l 2 thus held fronibeing bent or creased and from becoming detached. At 6 is a lining serving to protect theinner portion of piece 2 and which lies against the inner foce of the letter, and is shown secured thereto by the stitches 5, whereb the parts 2, 3 and 6 are firmly united iindtlie part 2 isprotected.
On op osite sides of freine l nre secured eyes 7, w iich inny be runde of suitable. metal und nre shown provided with flanges 7 laid against [renie l and secured thereto by solder or riveting ns desired. The eyes 7 project inwardly froni the buck of the freine and are shown pnssing through openings or slots 8 in the piece 2 in line. with freine 1. By this ineens the parts muy be readily stitched to the appropriate purtof a shoe, there is noy bnr extending across in front of the instep, and the traine nmde es described may be Patented Aug. 11, 1908.
tirnily fastened without danger. of detach- .inen t;
.f iHaving now described my invention what I claim is: 1- A frame having an inner opening, a. ieee of material having its marginal portion aid against one face of the frame and the inner portion of said material located in line with the opening of said frame, and a piece of material having a centrally disposed opening located over the op osite face o said frame and secured to the Erst named piece of material.
2. A frame having an inner opening, a ieee of material having its marginal portion aid against one face of the frame and the inner portion of said material located in line l with the selling of said frame, the outer edge. of said material extending beyond the periphery of said frame, and a piece of material provided with an opening and located over the opposite face of said frame, the inner-.end outer edges of said materialextend'-` ing beyond the inner and outer edges of said frame, and secured at such edges to the irst named piece of material.
