Be it known that I, PATRICK F. MeAULEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cambridge, in the county of Guernsey, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pool Table Attachments and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable .others skilled in the art to which it appcrtains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to attachments for pool tables and more particularly to a device in which the first ball pocketed will set in operation a music box.

The primary object of my invention is to provide a runway for the balls of such nature that all the balls will be collected as soon as pocketed, in a large pocket or receptacle located at one end of the table, the first ball to reach this pocket being the one which operates the trip mechanism for releasing the mechanism of the music box.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a top plan view of a table constructml in accordance with my invention, Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, Fig. 3 is an end elevation, showing the position of the parts before the first ball has been received in the main or receiving pocket, Fig. 4 is a similar view showing the position of the parts after a ball has been pocketed. Fig. 5 is a detail vertical longitudinal sectional view of one end of the table showing the arrangement of my device, and, Fig. 6 is a detail horizontal seetional View taken directly above the mechanism.

Referring more specifically to the drawing there is shown a 001 table 10 of the ordinary construction as far as the table itself is con ,tend toward each other in inclined planes and are designed to discharge into a pocket 14 of considerable size which is hinged as at 15 to the inner end of one of the runways 13 and so positioned that the discharge end of the other end runway slightly overlies the pocket. will presently be obvious, is not made of mesh material as is usually the case but is made of some non-yieldable material so that a ball falling into the pocket will swing it upon its hinge, the pocket being shown as slightly tilted when in its normal position.

Secured at its lower end. to the pocket 14 adjacent the lower end thereof and at its upper end to a rocking arm 16 which is pivoted as at 17 beneath the table and longitudinally thereof, is a flexible and preferably elastic strip 18 which, when the pocket is tilted to perpendicular position, is acted upon to rock the arm 16. This arm is normally held in the position shown in Fig. 1 and in the longitudinal sectional view by means of a spring 19 secured thereto and to the under side of the pool table. Pivotally connected to the inner end of the arm 16 is the upper end of a rod 20 which rod is pivotally connected at its lower end to a trip 21 which controls the mechanism of a music box 22 of any desired construction. While it have not shown any special form of music box it is to be understood that the trip 21 may be lo rated at any suitable point upon the music box just so long as it prevents actuation of the mechanism of the music box until it shall have been moved.

\Vhat is claimed is 1. The combination with a pool table and a music box, of a runway arranged to receive the balls pocketed upon the table, a movable receiving pocket arranged to receive the balls received in the runway, and means connected with the receiving pocket and with the mechanism of the music box for setting the latter in operation when a ball is pocketed.

In a device of the class described the combination with a pool table and a music box, of a runway adapted to receive balls pocketed upon the table, a movable receiving pocket adapted to receive the balls discharged into the runway, an arm arranged below the table, for rocking movement, connection between the arm and the pocket, and connection between the arm and the mechanism in the music box for setting the latter in operation when the arm is rocked due to the dropping of a ball in the pocket.
