Description

PATENTED APR. 21, 1908.
T. J. BURY.
DOOR SBGURER.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 29, 190
THOMAS J. BURY, OF ENID, OKLAHOMA.
DOOR-SECURER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 21, 1908.
Application filed May 29, 1907. Serial No. 376,285.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. BURY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Enid, in the county of Garfield and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door-Securers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to looks for doors and windows, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a simple device which can be instantly attached to a door frame for locking the door, and Which shall be composed of few parts and of simple construction.
Another object of the invention is to provide a door or window lock in which the keeper member may be secured to the door or Window frame and in which a detachable key is placed in the keeper and provided With a rubber buffer to prevent injury to the door or window.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a horizontal section of a portion of a door frame and door, and showing my lock secured to the door frame and in position for use. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the lock. Fig. 3 is an end view of the keeper.
Referring to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates the door jamb, and 2 is the door. The keeper member 3 of my lock consists of a plate having inwardly bent prongs 4 at one end and a loop 5 at the outer end, said loop having a square opening there in for the key. When it is desired to secure the keeper permanently to the door jamb 1,
a screw 6 may be used, said screw passing through a hole in the keeper member 3. The loop 5 is rovided with an inwardly bent end 7 which ears against the body portion of the keeper member and the loop 5 is located upon one side of the shank of the keeper member 3 with the inwardly bent end 7 bearing against the outer surface of the door jamb. The key consists of a piece of against the outer surface of the door 2.
flat sheet metal bent in L-shape and provided with a horizontal member 8 and a vertical member 9. Secured to the horizontal member 8 is a rubber buffer 10, said buffer being slipped onto the member 8 and adapted to bear against the outer side of the door 2 to prevent marring the same, while the vertical member 9 of the key is inserted in the loop 5. Connected to the horizontal member 8 is a ring 11, and a chain 12 is connected to the ring 11 and provided with a screw eye 13 at its end, said screw eye being adapted for connection to the door so that the key may not become lost in use.
The operation of my invention may be briefly described as follows: The keeper member 3 is placed between the edge of the door and the door jamb and upon closing the door the prongs 4*316 forced into the jamb to secure the same in place. The vertical member 9 of the key is then inserted in the loop 5 with the rubber buffer 10 bearing In this position it will be impossible to open the door against the key.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that my invention is of simple construction, can be quickly attached to a door or Window, and will not mar the door in use.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
A look comprising a keeper having prongs thereon for engaging a door jamb, a loop formed on said keeper member on one side of the shank of said keeper member, and a detachable key comprising an L-shaped bar, one arm of which is inserted in the keeper, and a rubber buffer secured to the other arm to prevent marring the door.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS J. BURY.
