Description

bAPPLIG IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII 6.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIOE.
ELIAS C. HOLLAND, OF BENTON HARBOR, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO METAL SEOTIONAL FURNITURE COMPANY, OF PORTLAND, MAINE, A CORPORATION.
FILING-BOX.
Specficaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 11, 1908.
Application filed March 27. 1906. Serial No. 308,335.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIAs C. HOLLAND, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Benton Harbor, in the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Filing-.Boxes, of which the following is a full and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to that class of devices intended to receive documents or cards, and has special reference to that particular class manufactured of metal sheets or other material possessing less rigidity than wood.
The purpose of my invention is to effect the construction -of a filing box which is simple and economical to build and having the reatest facility for assembling.
O the drawings, Figure 1 illustrates my box in perspective, Fig. 2 is the frame with the lining removed, and Fig. S-illustrates my removable lining.
, More particularly described, the frame of my box is described as follows: A is a solid drawer of usual pattern. To the top of this draWer front A is permanently attached two parallel grooved members a a, which members project inwardly from the drawer front A. At the inner ends of the members a a. they are secured together by the close arm a', attached to the inside face of the lower end of the drawer front A is the frame a2, all of the sides of which are in the form of angle irons. The lininOVB, shown in the Fig. 3 is shaped into the form of a rectangular box,
with the top and one end removed. It is designed to pass the lining B, open end first, into the rear of the frame shown in Fig. 2, the top edges of the sides of the box engaging downwardly proj ecting grooves in the members a a. The lining B is notched at the lower edge of its closed end as shown at b, for the purpose of allowing' the flange of the angle (1,2 to slip into said notch b when the lining is thrust into the said frame, thereby giving the rear end of the drawer a perfectly Smooth appearance, as shown in Fig. 1, and at the same time providing a means of holding the lining securely within theframe.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A filing box comprising a frame consisting of a rectangular plate, parallel grooved members attached near the upper edge of the said plate, and extending at right angles from the same a rectangular angle iron frame attached to the lower edge of the said plate and extending at right angles thereto and lying in opposition to the said grooved members, and a lining adapted to removably engage said grooved members and said angle iron frame.
2. A filing box comprising aframe consisting of a rectangular plate, parallel grooved arms extending in the same direction and at right angles from the upper edge of the said plate a rectangular frame formed of angle irons attached to the lower edge of said rectangular plate and extending at right angles thereto and in opposition to the said grooved arms and a lining formed as a rectangular box With the top and one end re*- moved and adapted to removably engage said grooved members and said angle irons.
