Description

PATENTED DEC. 10, 1907.
HJBPFREY. WRENCH.
APILIUATION-FILED FEB: l5, 1907 HARRY JEFFREY, OFl LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY.
Wannen.
lsipecifcatien of Letters Eatent.
Patented Dec. 10, 1907.
Application filed February 15. 1907. Serial Nn. 351.453.
,- To' all whom 'it/may concern: y
' 'Be itknown that I, vHARRY JEFF-REY, a
v c it'izenof the United vStates of America, residing -at Louisville, in thel county of Jeffer- .son .and State of Kentucky, have invented' certain new and useful lmprovements yin l llllrenches7 of which the following is a specij flcat1on, referencebeinghad therein to the accompanying drawing.'`
This invention relates towrenches of that type commonly styled spaliiner wrenches, and the invention has for itsobject'to provide a V wrench that canbe easily and quickly placed -upon a nut for obtaining a positive and firm grip uponsai'd nut, in order thatv the same can be rotated7 either to loosen or ,tighten the 'same -upon a bolt, tie rod .0r-similar element.
.Another object of this invention is to provide a Spanner wrench that can be either used in connection lwith a square nut, hexai on' nut orA other nut having two parallel suraces,4 the wrench loeingv constructed to dispense with the plurality of Spanner wrenches 'heretofore employed for various sizes of nuts.
A further object of'this invention is to provide .a f simple and inexpensive Spanner wrench'that can be easily/and quickly placed upon a'nut to rotate the same, Athe wrench being constructed of a single piece of material formed-t0 grip nuts of various configura tions, and sizes.
` trat/ing another entrance groove thereof With the above andothe'r objects in view, which will more readily appear as the inven tion is lbetter understood, the same consists in the novel construction,- combination and arrangement 'of parts to be hereinafter more fully describedandthen specifically pointedout in the appended claims,'and referring to the drawing forming part of this specification7 like numerals of reference designate Vcorresponding parts throughout the several views, in vvhicltf l Figure l is a fragmentary front elevation Y of the 'wrench illustrating an entrance groove thereof disposed at an angle with relation to the handle ofthe wrench, Fig. 21s arrear elevation of 9 portion -of the wrench illusalining with the handle of thefwrench, Fig. 3 is a Avertical sectional view of the same.
To put my invention into practice, l construct my improved wrench of a shank or y approximately one-third the handle l having enlarged heads and 3, the
head 2 constituting'the upper end of the 'i wrench.
in contour, while the head 2 is provided with a hexagon vshaped opening 5 to receive a similar shaped nut. l Y
- My invention resides `in-provding the front and rear sides of the head 2 `with entrance The head 3 is provided with a rectangular opening 4 to receive a nut similar grooves,` the groove 6 upon the front side of has its sides alining with the vertically dis-` posed sides of the opening 5. I
From the novel arrangement of the entrance grooves 6 and 7 .for a nut,"it will be observed that the sides of said grooves form .gripping surfaces for engaging a nut, and the wrench can talle a more ,positive grip upon a nut by sliding the wrench over the nut and then moving the wrench inwardly until ,the nut engages inthe opening 5 'of the wrench.
What l claiin and desire to secure by Letters Patent, ,isz-
A wrench ofthe type set forth comprising a handle having formed integral therewith at one end thereof an enlarged head provided with a hexagonal-shaped opening, said head further having one face thereof formed with an angularly-disposed groove having two o f the sides thereof alining in a plane with two oppositely-disposed walls of the said opening7 said groove disposed permanently at an angle with respect to the handle and said.
head further having on' the opposite face thereof a groove,` the side walls of which aline with two opposite side walls of the opening, said last mentioned groove errnanently extending in the direction in w 'ch the handle extends.
ln testimony whereof I affix my signaturc'ev in thepresence' oftwo witnesses.
' HARRY JEFFREY.
