Description

PATENTED NOV. 19, 1907.
M; M. MULEOD. GARMENT SUPPORTER. APPLICATION nun APR. 9, 11507.
Wat zoom 45 bottom and lower portion of the waist band UNITED STATES PATENT oFFIoE.
MINNIE MYRTLE McLEOD, OF COMO, MISSISSIPPI.
GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
To all'whom it may concern,
Be it known that I, 'hIINNIE LIYRTLE Mc- LEoD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Como, in the county of Panola and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Im' rovemnts in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is'a specification,
V reference being had therein to the accompathe invention consists in the features of novelt hereinafter described and claimed,
and il us trated in the accompanying drawings, in which Flgure 1 is a perspective view of the front of the improved garment sup orter; and Fig. 2 is a similar view of the ack of the 3% same.
In the drawing the numeral 1 denotes the body or waist band of the garment which is closed at -its front 2 and open or separated at its back as at 3. This open back is held together by a'vertical row of buttons 4 and button-holes 5 as more clearly seen in Fig. 2. -'At the top of the waist band are formed shoulder straps 6 which provide armholes 7 and a central neck opening 8 which latter isv referably low 'cut as shown but the waist and is of substantially uniform width and comparatively broad so as to effectively protect the childs body. These 0 enings7, 8 have their edges reinforced by a binding 9 of tape or braid, and arranged around the are two spaced reinforcing bands 10, 11. Buttons 12 are provided at suitable points on the bands 10, 11 for the attachment of skirts, drawers and similar undergarments,
said buttons bein preferably located at the front and sides 0 the waist band and the twolowermostbuttons 4 are arranged u on said bands at the back. Suitably secured to the bottom edge of the waist band at points substantially midway between its front and Patented Nov. 19, 1907.
}sides, as shown in Fi 1, are tabs 13 in l which are formed, pre erably two, buttonj holed eyelets 14 for the ready attachment of hose supporters. The arrangement of the tabs as shown causesthe supporters to roduce a straight upward pul upon the or stockings and thus prevents them from twisting or becoming uneven, and the provision of the eyelets in the tabs instead of upon the bottom of the waist band itself, prevents the latter being pulled out of shape and does not injurethe garment when t e tabs are subjected to extreme wear. In order to support the diaper or napkin, I provide front and rear tabs 15, 16, to which the The front tab 15 is connected by two bands or tapes 17, preferably non-elastic, to the front of the bottom edge of the waist band, and the back tab 16 is similarly connected by two rubber elastic bands 18 to the front of the bottom edge of the waist band, one of the bands 18being upon each side of the sriparation or opening 3, as clearly shown in 1g By securing one of the elastic bands 18 to ,each of the separated rear ends of the waist band, the latter may be widely opened to permit of the ready ap lication of the arment to or its remova from the chil or wearer s The use and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawing. It will be seen that the waist is exceedingly handy for use on an infant since the diaper 16, the hose supporters tothe tabs 13, and
the different skirts to the buttons 12 and 4. It will further be noted that thegarment may be used upon the child after it has (118- carded the use of diapers, since the tabs 15, 16 and their bands 17, 18 may be cut off of .the garment, and the drawers may beattached to the buttons 12, 4. The simplicity of the garment renders it durable and inexpensive, and also permits it to be. easily put on and taken off, and to be easily laundered.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
The herein described combined underwaist and garment su porter com mm the broad Waist band 1 o substantial y uni or m w dth having a vertical se aration at its rear, means for closing sai separation shoulder may be conveniently secured'to the tabs 15,
same may be pinned or otherwise secured,
straps at the top of'the waist band, the reinforcing and button-carrying bands 10, 11, arl rear tab- 16 and theirupper ends secured to ranged around the bottom portion of the a the separated rear ends of the waist band 15 waist band, garment supporting buttons sei whereby the latter may be widely opened to cured to said reinforcing bands, the hose supi permit it to be easily applied to or removed porting tabs 13 depending from the bottom 1 from the wearer, substantially as andfor the I of the Waist band at points intermediate its purposes specified. v v front and sides, the eyelets 14 formed in said i In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my 2G tabs for the attachment of hose-supporters, signature in presence-of two witnesses.
the fiont and rear diaper supporting tabs 15 T Y 7 16, the diverging bands 17 connecting the MINNIE MXRTLE Q E front tab 15 to the bottom of the front of the Witnesses:
Waist band, and the diverging elastic bands C. R. BROWN,
' 18 having their lower ends secured to the g Y S. G. DUBAR.
