To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERMAN F. Dunn, of Liverpool, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Key-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.

The object of my present invention is to provide a key ring and holder therefor for personal wear which is simple in construction and efiicient in operation.

Figure'l shows what may be termed a front elevation of the device. Fig. 2 shows aside elevation in connection with a section of the clothing to which it is applied, as for instance a garment band or edge of a pocket. Fig. 3 is a detail view showing the body part. Fig. 4 is a detail view showing the ring with its base constituting the detachable part. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the body or portion of the device which is attached to the garment of the wearer with the ring and ring base removed. Fig. 6-is a perspective view of a catch spring employed in the construction. Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the securing spring which is employed in the construction.

Referring to the reference letters and figures in a more particular description, 1 indicates the stationary body portion of the holder which is sheet metal bent to a V-shaped form providing the front part 1 and the rear part 1 standing somewhat apart, as shown particularly in Fig. 2. The front part or member 1 is provided with a slotted opening 2 having an enlargement at the upper end and of a key hole form. Applied to the rear of the part 1 is a spring 4 having adjacent to its free lower end a pair of upwardly inclined points 4. These points 4 are adapted to project inwardly past the part 1 which at the lower end is re duced to less Width to make provision for the points 4, and between the points 4 thespring 4 is allowed to extend in an ear 4 by means of which the spring can be manually operated and the points withdrawn from the space between thetwo parts 1* and 1*. Applied to the inner face of the part 1 is the catch spring 3 which is preferably bent and carried around at its up- At the point immediately opposite the upper end of the key hole opening 2 the spring 3 is preferably bent inwardly as indicated at 3 for purposes hereinafter specified. The key ring 5 is directly mounted in the ring base 6 by being passed through a hole in the head thereof. The ring base 6 is provided with disk-like end 6 adapted to freely pass through the enlarged upper end of the opening 2, and a disk-like enlargement 6 of a size to prevent it passing through the opening 2, and between these two parts a neck portion of a width substantially equal to that of the slot portion of the opening 2 and of a length substantially equal to the thickness of the part 1. In use the device will be placed on the garment of the wearer preferably on the edge of a band or on the edge of a pocket in the position as shown in Fig. 2, and on account of the upward inclination of the points 4. the device can be forced on to the edge of the garment if desired. When in position thereon it is secured by the points 4. The key ring base 6 is secured to the part 1 by placing the end through the upper end of the slot 2 and forcing it down to the lower end at which point the lower end of the catch spring 3 will catch over the part 6 and prevent it being moved upwardly or detached except when the spring 3 has been manually displaced by pushing on the projections 91". When the spring has been so forced back the ring with its base 6 may readily be removed by passing it up the slot until it comes opposite the enlarged upper end. By providing the bend or indentation 3 in the spring 3 the ring base 6 may be passed freely in and out of the slot 2 at the upper end without requiring any force or pressure. This indentation or bend 3may, however, be omitted in which case it becomes necessary to force the spring 3 back when inserting the ring base at the upper end of the slot.

The points 4 may be disengaged from their holding position manually at any time by throwing out the lower end of the spring 4. The ear 4' enables the operator to manipulate the spring 4 readily in releasing the device from the garment.

It is evident that modifications and changes in and from the construction herein described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention within the scope of the appended claims.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a device of the character described a U-shaped body or clip adapted to be applied to the edge of a garment and having a key hole opening in the outer member, a key ring having a base adapted to bereceived in said opening, a catch for securing the key ring base in said opening and means for detachably securing the body or clip to the garment, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination in a device of the character described of a II-shaped body or clip adapted to be applied to the edge of a garment as described and provided with an upright key hole opening in the outer member thereof, a catch spring applied to the inner face of the outer mem her, a key ring and key ring base adapted to be received in the key hole opening and engaged and secured by said spring, substantially as set forth.

The combination in a device of the character described of a U-shaped clip adapted to be applied to the edge of a garment having in its outer member an up right key hole shaped opening, a securing spring applied to the inner face of the outer member and having an operating knob or projection extending through the face of the outer member, and a key ring having a key ring base adapted to be received in said key hole opening, substantially as set forth.

4. The combination in a device of the character described of a U-shaped body or clip adapted to be applied to the garment as described having an upright key hole opening in its outer member, a catch spring applied to the inner face of said outer member behind and opposite said key hole opening, said spring being depressed opposite the enlarged end of the opening and a key ring having a key ring base adapted to be received in said opening, substantially as set forth.
