ELIZABETH ELTERICH SMITH, OF GLEN ULLIN, NORTH DAKOTA.
CLASP FOR PINS AND BROOCI-IES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 24;, 1907.
Application filed January 26, 1907. Serial No. 354,294
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIZABETH ELTERICH SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Glen Ullin, in the county of Morton and State of North Dakota, have in vented a new and useful Clasp for Pins and Brooches; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description oi the invention, such as will-enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to fastening devices, for brooches, badges and the like, and has for its object to provide improved means whereby articles of this class may be readily secured to the person of the wearer.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts herein after described and shown, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a plan view, of my invention shown on a brooch. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the brooch taken 011 line 22 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings 1 designates a brooch Which will be used for the purpose of illustrating this invention. The brooch 1 is provided with a pin 2, which is pivotally connected therewith as at 3, and which is engaged by a clamp 4 at the other end of the brooch. The clamp 4 is rigidly connected with the brooch as at 5 and has a yieldable rounded end 6. This clamp is made of steel or other suitable material and the pin is easily placed under the curved end and is held in place by the clamping action of the clamp 5. The brooch is provided with a raised portion 7, which is provided with a semicircular recess 8, in which, the pin 2 seats, after which, it is held from displacement by the clamp 4. The yieldable rounded end 6, of the clamp engages a recess 9 also formed in the body of the breech so as to prevent lateral bending of the said clamp, as will be understood.
The advantages of this invention will at once be apparent, among which, might be mentioned the ease with which the pin is slipped into place and'out again. Also the fact that the pin will not accidentally become unloosed. It will also be apparent that this invention may be applied to either inexpensive or costly jewelry.
What is claimed is:
A fastening pin for a brooch, and the like, said brooch comprising a body portion, a pin pivoted thereto, ears projecting' from the body portion to which the pin is pivoted. the said body portion havinga raised portion, said raised portion having a semi-circular recess to receive the pin, a clamp rigidly fixed to the body of the brooch, said clamp having a yieldable rounded end, the said body of the brooch having a recess to receive said yieldable rounded end to prevent lateral bending of the said clamp.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence 01' two subscribing witnesses.
ELIZABETH ELTERICH SMITH.
