Specification of Letters Patent.
Patentes sept. i?, i907.
Application led November 24, '1.906. Serial No. 344,860.
To all whom it. may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS F. SeANLoN, a citizen ofV vthe United States of America, residing at Allegheny,
in the county oi Allegheny and State ol Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bod Attachments, oi which the following is a specifica. on, reference -being had therein to the accompanying drawing. v
This invention relates to bed attachments, and the either at one side thereof, o1 over the leed. in this cony nection my improved attachment is udapted for in- Nidid'heds, but can be readily used in connection wil li an ordinary hed Where s desired t support a crib.
To this end, my improved attachment consists oi suitable clamps suppe a revoluhle standard having a 1li-shaped extension adapted to receive a crib, talile o1 tray. The revoluhle standard is provided With an adjustable arm to support a canopy or cover for the article carried by the U-shaped extension.
The detail construction @i my improved lied ytachinent Willi oe presentlydescribed, and then specilically peint-ed out in the appended claims.
.Referring to the drawing forming part oi this specilication, iihe numerals of reference designate correspondingI parts throughout the several views, iu which:
Figure l is a perspective'view of a bed equipped with my improved attachment, illustrating a crib sup- 'V ported thereby, Fig. 2 is a fragmentaryperspective view of the same illustrating a table or tray carried bythe attachment, Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of a portion olmy improved attachment, Fig. 4 is a similar view of s. clamp for Wooden beds.
"In the accompanying drawing, l have illustrated a conventional form oi iron or brass bed l, one of the head posts 2 of which is provided with my improved attachment. The vattachment consists of screw held clamps 3 and Li adapted to embrace the post 2 of the bed. The lowcrruest clamp 4 is formed with a socket 5 to receive the end oi a revolulole standard 6, said standard passing .through a sleeve? carried by the clampv. Upon the standard. directly above the sleeve 7 is u. tee connecti lion' 8 carrying an angle arm 9 which in provided with a,
lU-shaped extension or frame 1U. The side arms lll 50 of the extension or haine are grooved, which mayy be accomplished by making them channel-shaped in cross section and are adapted to support a crib, table or tiny. The crib l2 which I have illustrated in connection with the attachment is formed with a rim or upper flanged edges 14 adapted to slide in the channelshaped arms ll oi the 1U-shaped extension 1G. Thisis also true in connection with a tray, but when the attachment is to oe used as u. table, a plate or board 15 is placed between the arms il, asillustrated in 2 of the drawing.
The standard 6 is tubular or hollow, and adjustably mounted in the upper end of the standardbya set screw 1G is an angular canopy or curtain supporting :mn i7.' This arm is adapted to support a canopy or netting 1S over the article supported'by the U-shaped e'tfctcnsionn l0.. When my improved attachment is to be used in connection with a wooden bedstead, the clamp 19 illustrated in Fig. 4 0iv the drawings is prei-d crahly employed.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawing, it will he observed that my iinproved attachment can be readily applied to a bed` andswung iii-any desired position, either at one side of the bed or over the bed clothes of the bed. The numerous advantages of my improved attachment will be apparent t0 those having use for the same,` and while have herein illustrated the preferable manner of constructing the attachment, it is obvious that such changes in the minor details of construction as are permissible by the appended claims,y may he resorted to without departingjrom the spirit and scope of the invention.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isz- In a evice of the character described, the combination with a support, of a socket and a clamp both secured to said support, a standard revolubly mounted in said clump and socket, a T-connectou secured to said standard above the clamp, an L-shaped arm secured stone end ln said T- connecton and :i tI-shaped supporting Yframe projecting from the otherr end of said Irshapedrm, the side arms of said 'II-shaped supporting frame being channeled throughout their length to receive a removable support` In testimony-whereof l afr my signature in the presence of two witnesses.4
