Be it lrnown that I, JOHN R. BLAKE, of Dyer Station, in the county of Gibson, and State of Tennessee,

vhave invented a new and improved Truss; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication.

This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a truss'of peculiar construction, invented by J. R. Blake and J. L. J arrell, and .which formsthe subject Vof a separate and distinct application, now pending in the United States Patent Ofice. Y

The present invention consists in the application or use of an under strap, of India rubber or other suitable elastic substance, whereby the truss may be worn with greater ease and comfort, and all the advantages of the improved truss retained.

In the accompanying sheet of drawings- Figure l is a view of our improved truss applied to a. person.

A represents a band or belt, which encircles the body or bowels of the Iwearer, and secured in position by a buckle-fastening.

To the front and rear ofthe band or belt A there is attached a strap, B, the main portion of which is divided, by two longitudinal cuts, into three branches, a. a a, the ends o t' which are attached, by buckles b, to the band or belt.

A similar strap to B is attachedvto the rear side of the band or belt, and the ends of these two straps are connected by an India-rubber or other elastic strap, C,

which passes around and under the groin. (See iig. 1.).

In the voriginal truss, previously referred to, a round leather strap is used, instead of the elastic one.

We consider the latter la great improvement, as it admits of the truss being worn with much more ease and comfort.

The herniafpad D is attached as hitherto, and -is capable of being adj usted in the same Way, as described in the speciiication pertaining to the same.

I claim as new, and desire to .secure by Letteis v Patent- Theelastic strap C, constructed of India rubber or other suitable elastic material, when used in connection with or applied to atruss of the kind specified, in the manner as and for the purpose herein set forth.
