APPLICATION FILED DBO. 1I 1906.

JOHN A. HENDRICKSON, OF STEDMAN, CALIFORNIA.
COMBINATloN-Tool..
No. 857,459.V
Speccaton of Letters Patent.
Application tiled December 1, 1906. Serial No. 345,961.
Patented June 18, 1907.
To all whom it' may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. HENDnIoKsoN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Stedman, in the county of San Bernardino and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination-Tools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to combination tools and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a tool which can be conveniently carried in the pocket and which will comprise a knife handle having a plurality of tools connected thereto and arranged to be conveniently utilized when required for various purposes.
Another `object of my invention is to provide an implement which can be carried in the pocket and which will comprise. a knife handle having connected thereto a leather gouge or device for cutting holes in leather, a knife blade, a pair of nippers or pincers and a wire cutter, all mounted for convenient manipulation and for independent use Whenever required.
The foregoing objects and advantages will be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side view of a combination tool made in accordance with my invention and shown in closed position. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same with one member of the handle removed to show the various implements within the handle. Fig. 3 is a top plan view looking down into the handle. Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view on the line 4-4, Fig. 2, looking in the direction indicated by arrows.
Referring to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates the handle of the tool which, as shown, is an ordinary knife handle comprising two sides spaced apart and connected to ether by rivets 2, 3,'said rivets forming t e pivotal pins for the different tools. Pivoted upon the pin 2 is a knife blade 4 of ordinary construction, and upon the 'same pin 2, a concaved leather gouge or cutter 5 is pivoted. At the opposite ,end of the handle, a pair of pincer jaws 6, 7, are pivotally connected to the handle upon the rivet 3. l
Extending into the handle from the jaw 6 is a curved arm 8 provided with a slot 9 in the terminal end of said arm. The jaw 7 is provided with a wire cutter 1() upon its lower side adapted to operate in conjunction with a cutter 11 formed upon the jaw- 6, the handle of the implement being recessed at 12 to permit the wire to pass through and between the jaws 10, l1. Extending backward from the an arm connected at 15 to the arm 13 of the jaw 7, said lever having a pin 16 secured thereto, said pin passing through the slot 9 of arm 8. A guide pin 17 extends through a slot 18 in the handle 1 and is connected to the lever 14.
The terminal end 19 of the lever 14 is curved 'to lie against the knuckles of the knife blade 4 and the leather gouge 5, as shown in Fig. 2. A thumb-nail recess 20 is formed in the lever 14 and permits said lever to be withdrawn from the handle.
The operation of my invention may be brieiiy described as follows: When it is desired to use the wire cutter jaws 10, 11, the lever 14.is withdrawn from the handle, thus closing said jaws. When it is desired to use the pincer jaws 6, 7, the lever 14 is closed, thus moving said jaws upon the pivotal point 3, the parts being shown in this condition in Fig. 2. The knife 4 and the leather gouge 5 may be opened out wheneverrequired for use.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that a combination tool made in accordance with my invention may be used to advantage in securing the meeting ends of leather belting by lacing wires or thongs and that the tool may be found very convenient for various uses and for many purposes.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:
1. A combination tool comprising a knife handle, a pair of pincers pivotally connected to said handle, one member of said pincers having an arm extending into said handle and provided with a slot, a lever pivotally connected to the other jaw member of the pincers and provided with a pin passing through the slot in the arm, and a pin connected to said lever and extending through a slot in the handle, substantially as described.
2. A tool comprising a knife handle, a pair of tool members pivotally connected to said 13 and a lever 14 is pivotally IOO handle, one of said members having an arm In testimony whereof, I affix my signature extending into the handle and provided 'with in presence of tWo Witnesses. a slot, a lever pivotally connected to the other member and provided With a pin pass- JOHN A" HENDRICKSON' 5 ing through the slot in the arm, said lever Witnesses:
having a sliding pivotal connection with the CHAS. S. FoNTArN,
