Be it known that I, FREDERICK I'V. FLINT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Pool- Tables; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in attachments for pool-tables.

The object of the invention is to provide an attachment for pool-tables whereby the balls may be accurately spotted, means being provided whereby said spotting de vice may be readily swung into and out of an operative position.

With the above andother objects in View the invention consists of certain. novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed. i

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 i a plan view of a portion of a pool-table, showing the application of the invention thereto and in position for use. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same and showing in dotted lines the elevated position of the spotting-frame. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the device swung to the position the same assumes when not in use, and Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the outer or free end of the attachment.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the supporting-frame,which preferably consists of side bars 2, connected at their outer ends by integrally-formed end bars 3 and by an intermediate cross-bar 4. The end and cross bars 3 and 4; project above the longitudinal side bars 2, as shown. The side bars 2 are preferably provided on their under sides at their outer ends and adjacent to the end flange of the pool-table with feet 5, which are adapted to rest upon the top of said table, as shown. The ends of the side bars 2 are preferably hinged to the end of the pool-table, as shown at 6, to permit the frame 1 to be swung into and out of an operative position, said frame when swung to an. inoperative position being out of the way of the players.

On the outer or free end of the frame 1 are secured upwardly-projecting vertically-disposed guide-rods 7, on which are slidably mounted the triangular spotting-frame 8. Revolubly mounted in the upwardly-projecting end and cross bars 3 and 4 is a longitudinally-disposed shaft 9, on the outer end of which is formed a crank 10. To the latter is pivotally connected a pitman rod or link 12, the lower end of which is pivotally connected to the inner end of the spotting-frame 8, as shown.

On the opposite end of the shaft 9 is secured a crank-handle 13, by means of which the shaft may be turned in the end and cross bars of the supporting-frame, thus rocking the crank 10 and causing the pitman-rod 12 to lift or raise the spotting-frame perpendicularly on the guide-rod 7 to a position above the balls, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 of the drawings, thereby permitting the supporting and spotting frame to be swung to an inoperative position without disturbing the balls after the same have been accurately spotted.

By means of a device such as herein shown and described balls on a pool-table may be quickly and accurately spotted in exactly the same manner before each game, said device when not in use being swung to an outof-the-way position. While I have shown the attachment as being hingedly connected to the end of a pool-table, it is obvious that the same may be connected thereto in any suitable manner and also may be adapted to be removably engaged therewith.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of theadvantages of this invention as defined by the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. In a device of the character described, the combination with a hinged supporting frame, of a spotting frame slidably mounted thereon, a lifting mechanism to raise and lower said spotting-frame, and

guides to cause said frame to rise squarely and perpendicularly above the pool-table, substantially as described.
