APPLICATION FILED MAY 3, 190a. [SHEETS-SHEET z.
[N VEN TOR CLARENCE L. TAYLOR, OF ALLIANCE, ENG N ERING COMPANY,-
, I [OVERHEADTRAVELING {CRANE};
To It to/1.0711 it inayconcern:
I in overhead traveling cranes, and 1s designed more particularly Be it known that I, CLARENCE L. TAYLOR, of Alliance, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Overhead Traveling Cranes; and I do hereby declare the following to be 'a full, clear, and'e'xa'ct description of the invention, such as will enable othersskilled in the art t which it appertains to make and use the same. Myinvention relates to-an' improvement as an improvement on the double bridge crane disclosed in an ap lication for Letters, Patent executed by W1 liam H. Morgan March 16, 1906.
ed to travel on the toward one end of the girders 3 and constitute the main hoisting-- chains of the crane.
girdens .a main hoist-trolley full he Iorgan application discloses a main traveling bridge carrying a main hoist-trolley and an auxiliary movable or fixed bridge carried by the main bridge and located in a lane above the main trolley.
My invention consists of a main bridge composed of two end carriages and connecting-girders carrying four parallel trackways, mounted to travel on the inner trackways and a gauntree-crane mountouter trackwa My invention further consists in' the parts and combinations of parts, as will be more y explained, andpointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an end view of my improvement looking main bridge; and Fig. 2 1s a view in side elevation of the bridge, showing the gauntree-crane in end-elevation.
The traveling bridge com rising two end carriages 1, mounted on whee carrying the main girders 3, having track-rails 4, on which the main trolley 5 travels. This traveling bridge travels on the elevated track way 6, and its trolley 5 is rovided with one e chain or chains or more hoisting-drums 7, from which pass down between the mam The bridge thus constructed is provided with a motor and suitable earing for propelling it, and the trolley 5 is a so rovided' with hoist and travel motors. (h ht shown.) I
of the latter are the girders 17, which latter are parallel with the main girders 3. These 17 are provided on their upper sured trucks 2 and Secured to the end carriages near the ends Specification of Letters Patent, Application filed May 3, 1906. Serial No. 315,027.
Patented-Jan. 22, 1907.
8, on which the gauntreetravel. This crane comfaces with the rails crane is mounted to p'r ses two end frames 10, each mounted on wheels 11, whichtravel on the railsf8 on the outer girders 17 of the main bridge, and the parallel top girders 12, secured to and connectin the end frames 10. The end frames -10 an to girders-12 are rigidly connected and secure y braced, and the crane thus constructed designed to travel lengthwise the bridge-girders 17, a suitable motor and earing being provided, desired, for propdlling this gauntree-crane.
The'to girders 12 carry the whee s [trolley 15 is provided with thereof, and also, if desired, with amotor and gearing for ries a hoist-cha1n16, which may be used for tilting ladles carried by the main hoistc iains', for assistin the main hoist chains,
dling artsjof the mam trolley or bridge in as- 6 5' rails 13, on which i 14 of the trolley 15 travels. This a motor and gear- .ing for actuating thehoist drum or drums 7o propelling the trolley, and it carfor handling light 0 ieots, and also for hansemb ing or'while repairing the main crane.
With this construction it will be seen. that the top girders 12 extend at right angles to the length of the main bridge, thus the trolley its hoist-chain between the main girders '3 or between the latter and the outside girders 17, while the gauntree-crane as a whole travels lengthwise the bridge, thus permitting the hoist-chain 16 to be raised and lowered past either end of the trolley.- It is evident that many slight changes might be resorted to in the relative arrange- .ment of parts shown and described without departing from the spirit and scope of myinvention. Hence I would have it understood thatI donot-Wishto act construction herein shown and described Having fully described my invention, what claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isc 1 The combination with a main crane havconfine myself to the expermitting 15 to move topositions to bring crane inounted to travel on the main crane parallel trolley.
2. The combination with a main crane having four parallel rails therein, of a trolley with the travel of the main-crane ,tiol't travel of the r ley mounted to travel on the two inner rails and a gauntree-eranemounted to travel on the two outer rails. v v 1 3. The combination with a main crane having tour parallel girders, of a trolley? mounted to travel on the two inner girders and a gauntree-crane mounted to travel on the two outer girders.
4. The combination with a traveling brirlge having two inner rails and two outer rails, of 'a main trolley mounted to'travel on the two inner rails, a gauntreecrane mounted specification in the presence of two s'ubscrib to travel on the two outer rails and a trolley ing witnesses. mounted to' travel-on a trackwayon the gau ntree-crane, the travel of the trolley'on the lat ter crane being T at right angles to the. direc- 5. The col'n'bination with a traveling bridge having four parallel rails, or a crane mounted to traveljon the-two outer rails, a
and an auxiliary, trolley mounted on the crane carried b y the outer tracks and adapted to travel in a plane atright angles to the trolley on the inner rails, the said auxiliary trolley being in a plane above the main trolley.
