UNITED STATES PATENT onnron.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 4, 1906.
Application tied June 29,1905. Serin N5. 267,515.
To a/ZZ whom, t may concern.-
Beit known that I, NICHOLAS STRoMEn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gillett, in the county of Oconto and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Egg-Beaters, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention is an improved construction of egg-beater, the object being to provide a simple and efficient construction of device which can be held in one hand and operated by the other through the medium of gears and whereby the beater proper can be quickly operated in a manner very similar to the operation of an ordinary hand-beater, thereby obtaining both the efficiency of the hand-beater and the rapidity of the machinebeater.
With these objects in view and certain others, as will appear hereinafter, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement, all of which will be fully described hereinafter, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of the egg-beater constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, the beater proper being shown in elevation. Fig. 3 is a detail horizontal section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 9 looking in the direction of the arrow. Fig. is a detail section on the line 4 4 of Fig. looking in the direction of the arrow. Fig. is a detail view illustrating the manner of adjusting the fulcrum-bar.
In the practical embodiment of my invention I employ the beater proper, A, comprising the shank A and the reticulated frame portion A2. The shank A passes through the central opening B of a horizontal fulcrum-bar B, which fulcrum-bar is carried by a wire frame O, the bottom member C being adapted to rest upon the bottom of the vessel in which the eggs are being beaten, and the side members O2 pass upwardly through the elongated openings B2, produced in the ends of the fulcrum-b ar, and are connected at their upper ends to a top piece D, which may be of wood or metal, as preferred, and connected to this top piece D is a combination bracket and handle E, to which is pivoted the drivinggear F, having a crank-handle G, said gear meshing with a pinion H, mounted upon a short shaft I, journaled in the top piece D,
and this shaft I also has a crank-arm K rigidly connected thereto, the said arm being connected to the upper end of the shank A of the beater A.
The side rods C2 of the frame C are preferably thickened adjacent their central portions and are provided with the exterior notches C3, into which fit the fulcrum-bar, as most clearly shown in Fig. 5, and in order to adjust the said fulcrum-bar the side bars and the frame are pressed inwardly a short distance and the bar moved up or down, and then the rods are permitted to assume their normal positions and engage with the fulcrum-bar. The fulcrum-bar is adjusted vertioally for the purpose of increasing or decreasing .the amplitude of the vibration of the beater, it being understood that by raising the bar the beater is made to swing through a larger arc, and by lowering the bar the beater is made to swing through a smaller arc. If desired, the top piece D and the combination handle and bracket can be made all in one piece.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is obvious that I provide an egg-beater in which the beater proper will be operated in the manner very similar to a hand-beater, and, furthermore, that the said beater will be agitated or operated with great rapidity, thereby accomplishing the efficient beating of the egg in a very short space of time.
I-Iaving thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In an egg-beater, the combination with a top piece provided with a U-shaped frame having notched side members, of a fulcrumbar having slotted ends adjustably mounted on said members having a central opening, a crank-arm carried by a shaft mounted in said top piece, a beater provided with a shank adapted to extend up through the opening in the fulcrum-bar, and be connected to said crank-arm, and operating mechanism connected to said shaft carrying the crankarm, for the purpose described.
2. In a device of the kind described, the combination with a top piece provided with a handle, of a U-shaped frame carried by said top piece having notches formed on the side members of said frame, a fulcrum-b ar having a central opening and provided with elongated slots adjacent each end, mounted on the-side member ofthe frame a 4Shaft mountl adapted to engage said gear,v for the purpose ed in said top piece, provided With a geardescribed.
