SHOE-CLEANER.

To all whom, it may concern.

Be it known that I, HARRY A. OoTToM, a l citizen of the United States, residing at Brownsville, in the county of Fayette and 1 State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain 1 new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Cleaners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to shoe cleaners and olishers; andthe objects of the same are to provide a device of simple construction and inexpensive manufacture for cleaning and polishing shoes efficiently and expeditiously without the expenditure of excessive strength and labor.

These objects are accomplished by means of the construction illustrated in the accom panying drawing, in which the figure is a perspective view of a shoe cleaner and polisher made in accordance with my invention and illustrating its manner of use.

Referring to the drawing for a more particular description of my invention, the numerals 1 1 designate the end bars of a support ing-frame, said bars being formed, preferably, of wood and provided with roller-bearings 2, l in which are journal ed rollers 3. These rollers are journaled in bearings by means of pintles 4, secured in the ends of the rollers 9 Between the 5, upon which and 1ournaled in the bearings .4. l rollers is a support or platform the shoe rests while upon the foot ofthe wearer.

A toe-support 6 is secured to the one end of platform 5 to sufficiently raise the toe of the shoe to insure contact of the polishing-cloth with the vamp of the shoe. A similar support or stop 6 is secured to the other end of the, platform and constitutes a chock to hold the heel ofthe shoe. A polishing-cloth 7, of sufficient length for the purpose, is passed over the platform or support 5 and under the rollers, as shown. i

It will be observed that the two supports 6 and 6 are counterparts of each other, so that each. constitutes a shoe-support and heel-chock, thereby rendering it using the device at each end. This will be found highly convenient and will obviate an objection heretofore present in said'article.

The operation of my invention may be described as follows: The shoe of the wearer is placed upon the support or platform 5 with the toeof the shoe resting upon the toe-support under the polishing-cloth. Byreciprocating the polishing loth and at the same time slightly turning the foot all parts of the vamp of the shoe may be quickly and efficiently cleaned and polished. For cleaning the heel portion and quarter of the shoe it is merely necessary to place one side of the heel in position to insure contact with one portion of the polishingcloth, and the heel may then be shifted to the other side to be in contact with the other portion of the polishing-cloth, as will be readily understood. Owing to the fact that the cloth passes under the rollers 3 and up over the shoe, there is comparatively little friction of the cloth, exceptinguponthe shoe, and the pressure of the cloth upon the shoe may be regulated in accordance with the desire of the operator in an obvious manner.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A shoe cleaner and polisher comprising a platform, rollers disposed on opposite sides thereof, and oppositely-inclined combined shoe-supports and heel-chocks disposed adjacent to the ends of the platform and being counterparts of each other, whereby to adapt the article to be used from either end.
