Description

1 ?ATENTED NOV. 6, 1906.
6 0 mm u H S ISD A E K H J N m WA m S P A ATTORNEY MARTIN J. KAISER, OF LIZABETH, NEW JERSEY.
SHUTTER-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
I atented ov. 6, 1906.
Application filed April 27, 1906- Serial No: 313,921.
I To all whom it may concern.-
on its inner end with a finger-piece 24.
Be it known that I, MARTIN J. KAISER, a citizen of the United States, residing, at Elizabeth, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shutter-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention refers to a shutter-hinge combined with'a stopping attachment that will lock the shutter in various positions and that can be operated from the inside of the Shutter.
The invention is illustrated in the drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a Shutter provided withmy improved attachment, and Fig. 2 is a section taken horizontally to show the arrangement of the operating device.
In the drawings, 10 is the shutter, and 11 is the frame. On the frame is secured a late 12 by screws or other means, this plate llaving at right angles thereto a circular plate 13, which is provided in its periphery with radial or approximately radial slots 14 and has projecting therefrom the pintle 15. Over this pintle is fitted the eye 16, which bears on the plate 13 and is integral with the leaf 17. Working in, clips 18 on the leaf,
17 is a bar 19, which can reciprocate radially in relation to the plate 13, the end 20 of the bar 19 engaging the slots 14 when In line with them, otherwise bearing on the peripheral edge of the plate 13.
On the outer end of the bar 19 is placed a perforation 21, in which is fitted the end of a rod 22, that is pivoted at 23 and is provideId 1; Will be evident that when this finger-piece is operated the bar 19 will beslid back out of engagement with the slots and the plate 13, and on its release the spring 25 or similar means will cause the bar to be thrown back into engagement with the plate 13.
I have thus devised a compact locking device for a'shutter or similar fixture that is i sure of operation and not liable to get out of order on account of its simplicity.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. An improved shutter-fastener comprising a plate having a horizontal semicircular plate thereon, the horizontal plate having ing a plate having a semicircular horizontal 1 plate thereon, the horizontal plate having notches in. its periphery, a pintle on the horij zontal plate, a hinge-leaf horizontally arranged on the outside of a shutter, and having an eye to engage the pintle on the horizontal plate, clips on the hinge-leaf, a bar sliding in the clips and having one end engaging the notched periphery of the horizontal plate, a rod actuating the bar and pro-. j ecting through the shutter and having a-fin ger-piece on its opposed'end, and a spring actuatingathe rod to hold the bar in engagement wit the notched plate. v
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 18th day of April, 1906.
MARTIN J. KAISER.
