Be it knownthat we, Jnrnno PEUKHAM and JOHN PECKHAM, of Middletown, in the -county ofvNewport, and

State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in.Adjustable Ventilating-Apparatus; and we do hereby declare that the following is'a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the artrto make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- I A Figure 1 represents a side elevation of abuilding with my improvement applied to it, and

Figure 2 represents a transverse section of the same.

This invention relates to improvements in ventilators for buildings, the object of which is to provide a more simple and readily-adjustable apparatus, and is designed more especially for hot-houses and similar buildings.

It consists in supporting the ridgeeover upon vertically-adjustable supports, and combining therewitha windlass, for raising or lowering it, to open or-close the Ventilating-passage through` the-ridge, as will be hereinafter described. A 'A Y 'A represents the ridge-cover, which is supported on the vertical sliding posts or studs, B, at the ends of the building, or, if a long building, at suitable intervals therein.

C represents a horizontal shaft, suitably arranged below the ridge-cover, and at one side of the studs B, which is provided with cords, D, winding around it, and connected inl a manner to raise or lower the said studs by the turning of the shaft, by meansof a wrench-handle or other suitable appliance.

Lhe Ventilating-passage E is arranged at the apex of the'roof, in the usual manner, and will be opened or closed by the raising or falling of the cover A, as will be readily understood.

Having thus described our invention, we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Thercombination, with the ridge-cover A, supported on the vertically-sliding studs B, of the winding-shaft C and cords Dfsubsta'ntially as and for the purpose specified. I l
