Be it known that I, LESLIE WETHERBEE, a resident of Adrian, in the county of Lenawee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements'in Stovepipe- Holders; and I do hereb declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to an improved stovepipe-holder, the object of the invention being to provide an. improved construction of device for securing the pipe in its chimney-hole against movement inward or outward and also provide improved means for securing the device to various sizes of pipe Without in any manner injuring the latter.

With these objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construc tion and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in side elevation, illustrating my improvements. Fig. 2 is a view in longitudinal section, and Fig. 3 is a view in cross-section.

1 represents the wall of a chimney, and 2 a stovepipe to be secured therein. An adjust able band or collar 3 is secured around pipe 2 by a screw 4 and nut 5, and comprises two sections, one end of one band-section being bent upon itself to form a sprin 6, which bears against one side of the angu ar head of screw 4 and serves as a lock therefor, preventing accidental turning of the screw. The nut 5 is made of sufficient size to prevent its turning, as one flat side thereof will lie against the other section of collar 3. One section of collar 3 is provided with three small offset portions 3, and the other section has three larger offset portions 3* to fit over the offsets 3 and permit the sections to be adjusted with relation to each other to enlarge or contract the collar to fit various sizes of pipe, as will be readily understood; The offset portions 3 and 3 have openings to receive in any pair of them a screw 8.

One member 9 of in improved clamping means has a long thin fiat strip lying against the pipe 2 and made with an ofiset portion 11 to fit over the offset 3*, while the other member 10 has a long channel-shaped portion to fit over the offsets 3 and 11 and be guided in its adjustment thereby. Member 9 has an opening to accommodate screw 8, and member 10 is made with a slot 12, through which the screw passes and permits longitudinal adjustmentof member 10. A thumb-nut 13 is located on screw 8 and is adapted to be screwed down against member 10 to clamp theparts at any adjustment. The forward end of member 9 is bent away from the ipe and back upon itself with its end again foFded and lying between the first folds. The three thicknesses of the strip are riveted together and disposed at right angles to the main portion of the member to form a jaw 14, adapted to engage the inner face of the chimney-wall 1, and at the end this folded strip is given a compound curvature and bent'back upon itself, forming a brace 15, which bears against the inner face of the pipe, strengthening the jaw 14 and preventing the latter from being bent out of operative position at right angles to the pipe 2 by any outward pull on the pipe. Member 10 has a jaw 16 at its end formed by bending the end of the strip outward and then back with its extremity resting against the main portion of the member and constituting a braced jaw to be located against the outer face of the chimney-wall 1.

By constructing my improvements as above explained the member 10 can be adjusted to clamp chimney-walls of any thickness, and the parts are strong and durable, can be cheaply manufactured, and can be attached to any pipe without injuring the pipe in the slightest.

A great many slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not restrict myself to the recise details set forth, but consider myseff at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a device of the character described, the combination of adjustable clamping members adapted to engage a chimney-wall, each having a jaw at one end, a split band for securing the same to a pipe means for securing the clamping members at different adjustment, the forward end of each clamping member provided with a brace, the brace on one clamping member engaging the latter in IIO rearof the bearing-face of the jaw thereon and the brace on the other clamping member adapted to engage the inside of the pipe.

2. In a Stovepipe-holder, the combination of a collar comprising two members adjustable relatively to each other and having a plurality of oflset portions adapted to intermesh, whereby said members can be held in different adjustments relatively to each other, means for clamping said members on a stovepipe and means attached to said collar for securing the pipe to a chimney-opening.

3. In a Stovepipe-holder, the combination voi a collar comprising two members adjustable relatively to each other and each having a plurality of oflset portions the offset por tions of one member being adapted to intermesh with those of the other whereby said members can be held in different adjustments relatively to each other, means for securing said members to a pipe and a clamp attached to an offset portion of each member for securing the pipe in a chimney-opening.
