Description

v UNITED' STATES PATENT OFFICE. PAULMASOHER, OE EAST- PALESTINE, OHIO, ASSIGOE OE ONE-HALE To PATRICK DOLAN; OF EAST PALESTINE, OHIO.
POOL-TABLE ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dee. 5, 1905.
' Application iled November l5, 1904. Seria] No. 232,849.
To all whom it wtcty concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL MASCHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Palestine, in the county of Columbiana and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Pool- Table Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to attachments to pool-tables or other tables having pockets to receive balls employed in the playing of the game, the object being to provide a raceway to receive the balls from the pockets and conduct them to the end of the table.
A further object ofthe invention is ,to provide a devi'ce of the character mentioned which may be readily applied to any ordinary pool-table without requiring any change or. modification in the construction of the table itself.
The invention consists of a' track or raceway, in combination with novel means for securing the track or raceway to a table.
The invention further consists in the' novel the balls at the end of the table after they' have been conducted there through the track or raceway.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in per spective of a pool-"table with my improvement Fig.l Zis a vertical section applied thereto. through one o f the pockets of the table, show i-ng the means for supporting the trackway. Fig. 3 is a View in perspective ofone of the supporting devices of the trackway.
The reference-numeral 1 designates a pooltable having the usual side and 'corner pockets 2.
My improved attachment comprises a track or raceway 3 of approximately semicircular form in cross-section and extending along the sides and across the end of the table in position to receive the balls as they drop from the pockets. The track or raceway is arranged atsuch an inclination toward the front or starting end of the table as will direct the balls by gravity to that end.
The track or raceway is supported at point between the pockets by bracket-arms, each comprising a hook portionvt to embrace the under side of the trackway, and a horizontal arm 5, secured by screws or other fastening devices to the under side of the rail of the table. In addition to these bracket-.arms the track or raceway is supported by the novel devices shown in Figs. 2 and. 3, each compris= ing a` substantially cylindrical body portion 6, having an intermediate portion thereof reduced and extended into the adjacent pocketl of the table and its lower end provided with inwardly-projecting perforated arms 7, adapted to engage the opposite sides of the track or raceway, there beingV suitable clampingscrews 7 threaded in the perforations of said arms for engagement with the raceway, as shown.
'1 To apply my attachment to an ordinary` pool-table having the usual network pockets,
the lower ends of the pockets are cut olf to permit the cylindrical-shaped supportingdevices to be inserted.
The trackway 3 is preferably lined with any suitable fabric to render it comparatively noiseless, and4 the cylindrical-shaped body portions 6 of the supporting devices are also preferably lined for the same purpose.
It will be obvious that any pieces of chalk falling through the pockets may be readily vremoved from the trackway, inasmuch as the latter is open on its upper side throughout its length.
While I preferably employ sheet metal in the construction of the trackway, l would have it understood that the invention comprehends all. such variations in material, size, and form as may be embraced within the scope of the invention.
Having thus'described the invention, what I claim is 1 The combination with a pool-table, of a track or raceway, and a supporting device comprising a substantially cylindrical-shaped body portion having an intermediate portion thereof reduced and extended in'to the pocket of the table and its lower end provided with inwardly-projecting arms adapted to engage said raceway.
2. The combination with a pool-table, of a track 0r raceway, and a supporting device for the raceway comprising a substantially cylindrical-shaped body portion having a reduced neck the walls of which are curved outwalidly and adapted to engage the poeketot' the tab e.
3. The combination with a pool-table, of brackets secured to the table atpoints between the pockets,.a track or raceway secured to the brackets, supporting devices each comprising asubstantially cylindrical-shaped body portion the upper end of which is extended Within the pocket and the lower end thereof provided with inwardly-projecting arms, and clamping devices carried by the arms and adapted to engage the raceway.
4:. The combination with a pool-table,b1ack ets secured to the table at points between the pockets, a track or raceway secured to the brackets and provided with an extension adapted to serve as a support for the balls, supporting devices each comprising asubstantially cylindrical-shaped body portion the upper end of which is extended within the adjacent pocket and the lower end thereot` provided with inwardly-projecting perforated arms, and clamping-screws passing through the perforations in said arms for engagement with the raceway.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aHXed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
PAUL MASCHER.
