TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

' Be it known that I, HENRY H. PALMER, of Rockford, Winnebago county, State of Illinois, have invented a new and improved Spring-Seat; and I hereby declare thatthe following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the artto make and use the saiue, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

Similar letters of reference indicate like parts. This invention relates to a new ahd improved spring-seat, in which a conical wire spring, is used between the seat proper and an extra bottom or base-board, to which the springs are attached by staples or otherwise.

The object of the invention is to obtain a springseat, which will spring not only up and down like other spring-seats, but will also yield laterally and sideways, so as to almost entirel relieve the occupant from the jolt of the wagon in all directions, .and also less than half the cost of the ordinary spring.

A represents a common wagon-seat; B, the bottom, upon which the springs are fastened.

D D represent the springs, conical in form, with their base or large end fastened to the board 13, the small end of which is turned up, so as to enter holesmacle for the purpose in the bottom of the seat A.

E E E are flexible straps, connecting the seat A tothe bottom, 13.

The cross-braces C may be either a. flexible strap or a metallic spring, bent inwardly, so as to'be capable of yielding hacktowards the centre, one end of which is attached to one side of the bottom, 13, thence angling upward to the opposite side of the seat A, and vice versa, endways, crossing each other, as at .C, fig. 2, for the purpose of preventing too much lateral or side-motion.

Having thus'fully explained and set forth the nature and object of my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

Seat A, bottom B, braces O, and straps E, in combination with the spring D, when arranged to operate substantially in'the manner herein described.'
