llLiLlNOl SPECIFXGEJION forming part o'l Letters Patent tl'o. 794,09tl, dated July 4, 1995.
Application filed May 20, 1904. Serial No. 208,918.
lie itknown that li, SOLOMON' lil/xinsrun'r l inn, a citizen et the United ttates, residingl abili/*inchester in the county ot Scott and State oi lllinois, have invented anew and uselul tiepa rable llastener, of which the following is a specification.
llhis invention relates to separable fasteners.
'vlhe objects ot' the invention are to improve, strengthen, and simplify the construction ot' such devices and to increase their eliiciency in use.
jW ith these objects in view the invention resides in the particular combination and ar- .rangement of parts and in the precise details el construction hereinafter described, with relerence to the accompanying drawings, forming part ol this speeilieation, whereinm liligure l is a long'itudinal section. Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on the line 2 9. in Fig. l. Fig. Sis a perspective View of the Fig. 4f is a perspective detail view showing the tugger of the spring-catch drawn out and engaged by the latch member' lb.
'.lhe improved fastening device comprises two cooperating members l and 2. lhe member l is Aformed with two parallel side liauges 3 and Ll, each ol which is provided with an internal guide-groove, as shown at 5 and t3. '.lhe member 2 is 'Formed with side ribs or guidesrw and 8, which [it into the guide-grooves 5 and G, thus adapting the member il to be slid longitudinally upon the member l between the side `flanges and a thereof. lietween the side ilanges 3 and l the memberl l :is :termed with a plurality ol notches or ratchet-teeth 9. Upon the lower surface ol the member 2 is pivoted a spring-catch l0, having a hooked portion or catch lll to engage the ratchet-teeth 9 of the member l. ilonnected with the springcatch l0 is a tugger l2, which projects upward through a slot 13 in the member Q and is bent at its upper end, as shown at 14s, to provide means `tor en gaging said trigger with the linger-nail of the index-'linger to draw the spring-catch l0 away lrom the ratchet-teeth 9 and permit the ment ber 2 to be withdrawn from the member ilV in untastening the buckle. lhe bent end ot' the tugger l2 is adapted to be engaged by a pivotlatch i6 on the upper surface ol the member' 2te hold the spring l() away from the ratchetteeth 9 in unfastening the buckle. as soon as the latch le is disengaged from the tugger l2 the spring-catch l() will engage the ratchetteeth El.
Formed on one end ot the member l an ear or lug 17, having therein a perforation 118 and a slot i9. fl similar lug 20, having therein a perforation 2l and a slot 2Q, is Vformed en the opposite end ol the member Q. 'lhe lugs 17 and 20 provide means l'or attaching the two parts et the fastening device to the article upon which they are intended to be used. ln sewing the fastening device to a garment it may be il'ound convenient to pass the threads through both the slot and theperforation, and in riveting the lfastening device to a shoe or the like it may be :Found desirable merely to pass the rivet through the perforatien.
In the lorm et invention illustrated and described the member l, with its side llangcs, ratchet-teeth, and attaching' ear or lug, may be cast in one piece el any suitable metal. lhe member 2 likewise may be cast in a singie piece, il desired.
The device et the invention is strong, durable, simple, orl'iamental, and inexpensive in construction, as well as thoroughly practical and satisfactory in operation. In its particular combination and zirraligement olI parts and in the precise details ol.f construction it presents an improvement over prior devices olf a similar character.
Minor changes in construction maybe made within the scope ol? the ilollowing claim without departing from the spirit oi the invention.
