To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, DECATUR C. PASLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dolliver, in the county of Emmet, State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness-Buckles; and I do ereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The present invention has reference to harness buckles, and it aims to provide a simple, durable, and inexpensive device of that nature which may be readily attached to and detached from a leather strap without stitching, which may be quickly adjusted to any desired point on the strap, and which, when adjusted, will effectually serve its purpose in the ordinary manner, without liability of being caught in the other parts of the harness, or in the nets. y

IVith the above and other ends in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter more fully described, specifically claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like parts are designated by corresponding reference numerals in the several views.

Of the said drawings-Figure 1 is a perspective view of the detached buckle. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, partly in vertical section, of the buckle used as a means for connecting two straps of a harness. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the buckle in place upon a cross-line strap.

Vith more particular reference to the drawings, the buckle is shown as consisting of a hollow sleeve 5 formed of steel or other preferred metal and rectangular in cross-section. Secured to the rear face of the sleeve is a spring-tongue 6, disposed longitudinally thereof, one end of the tongue being bent laterally to form a Ylinger 7, which is passed through alining openings 8 formed in the front and rear faces of the sleeve, the extremity of the finger 7 projecting slightly beyond the front face of the sleeve, as indicated by the reference numeral 9. The opposite end of the tongue is riveted, 0r otherwise fastened, as at 10, to the sleeve, and the portion of the tongue adjacent the finger 7 is bent outwardly away 'om the adjacent sleeve face to provide a hand-hold 6', by

means of which the linger may be removed from engagement in the openings 8.

The buckle above described3 is shown in Fig. 2 as a means of connection between two leather straps A and B, provided respectively with the openings 1l and 11, which are brought into registration with each other and with the corresponding sleeve openings 8 for the passage of the finger 7 of the tongue 6 therethrough. It will therefore be apparent that when the several parts are in the position shown in Fig. 2, the straps A and B will be securely held together, and any endwise movement of one strap relative to the other thus prevented. IIn Fig. 3, the buckle is shown in connection with a cross-strap C, bent upon itself to form the loop D, the members of which are passed through the sleeve 5 and are likewise provided with the o enings l1 and 1l for the reception of the inger 7. In the construction above described, it will be apparent that the buckle retains the ends of the strap C in place to effect the formation of the loop D, the size of which latter may obviously be regulated by passing the tongue nger 7 through the corresponding openings 11 and 11. l

It will be understood from the foregoing, that the buckle may be readily adjusted to any point upon a strap by merely passing the finger of the tongue through the corresponding opening, and it will be likewise apparent that displacement of the two straps A and B or of the ends of the strap C is positively prevented. The formation of the hand-hold 6 enables the spring tongue finger to be readily and uickly inserted into or withdrawn from the s eeve openings.

What is claimed, is-

A buckle comprising a rectangular sleeve having alining openings formed through its front and rear faces, and a spring tongue secured at one end to the rear face of said sleeve and having its opposite end bent laterally at right angles thereto and passed through said openings, said tongue being bent away from said sleeve face adjacent said lateral portion to provide an outwardly extending hand-hold.
