Be it known that I, ARTHUR A. MoRAn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attlehero, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and uselul Improvement in Hat-Pins, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has reference to an improvement in hat-pins, and more particularly to an improvement in the method oi securing the head ol" the hat-pin to the pinshank.

The object of my invention is to secure the parts forming the head together and to the pin-shank simultaneously without the use of solder.

A further object of my invention is to secure the hat-pin head to the pin-shank more 'tirmly and rigidly than has heretofore been done.

My invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction of a hat-pin having a head formed in halves, with coinciding holes in the top and bottom of the halves, a pin-shank having holes coinciding with the holes in the halves 't'orniing the head, and means for se curing the halves of the head together and to the pin-shank sin'niltaneously, consisting of rivets through the holes in the head and pin shank, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter.

Figure l is a face view of the parts lorming my improved hat-pin. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same, showing the parts in the position to be secured together. Fig. 3 is an edge view ol the completed hat-pin. Fig. t is a lace view of the same, and Fig. is an enlarged vertical sectional view taken lengthwise through the head of the hat-pin and pinshank.

[n the drawings, (1 indicates the pin-shank, I) the head, and c e the tubular rivets for securing the halves of the head together and to the pin-shank.

The pin-shank u is formed of spi'ing\vii'e l and has the usual pointed end a, the (lattened end (L2, in which is the hole a, and the llattened portion (0, having the hole a, as shown in Fig. 'l.

The head 1) consists of the halves I) b, having the holes in the bottom and the holes I) I) in the top. The halves I) I) are stamped from sheet metal. to form a hollow head and may be shaped to form an ornamental design, such as shown in Figs. 1 and t.

In assembling the parts forming my im proved hat-pin the end of the pin-shank having the holes (1 and (1 is placed between the halves I) I) of the head, the hole (1 in the pinshank coinciding with the holes I) I) and the hole a in the pinshank coinciding with the holes If in the halves b I) forming the head. The tubular rivets c c are now passed through the holes in the head and pin-shank and riveted.

By the novel construction and arrange ment ol the parts of my improved hat-pin the pin-shank extends between the halves forming the head and the head is secured to the pin-shank at the top and bottom of the head by rivets, thus more lirmly and rigidly securing the halves of the head together and to the pin-shank simultaneously without solder than has heretofore been done.

It is evident that the pin-shank could be secured to the head without extending it through the head by dispensing with the llattened portion (1 with the hole (t and securing the llattened end (1 with the hole a to the bottom of the head by a rivet through the hole (1 in the shank and the holes I) If in the head.
