Description
T0 `,ALL WHOM IT `MAY` CONCERN:
Letters Patent No. 78,221, dated Maw 26, 1868.
IMPROVED BRIGK-MAGHINE.
@te dgienrle maar in in that ttters ateut'aui making @mit nf this arme Beit known that I, B. J. McAFEE, of Delphi, in the county of Carroll, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in :Brick-Machines;4 andIdo hereby declare that thc following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in whic .-e ,p
Figure 1 represents a. view in 4perspective of my improved concrete-hriclr press, Vand Figure 2 a vertical section of the same. i v p The object of my invention is to provide anapparatus for conveniently and rapidly pressing concrete -into bricks, and to this end my improvement consists, l
"First, inA providing a rotary mould-table, so arranged as to present the moulds successively to the former, after they have been filled with concrete, and to retire them lafter the brickhas beenpr essed.4 A f j Second, in combining a screw and former, working in the frame with the rotary mould-table, so as td press the bricks as they are successively presented t'o it.V Y
Third, in providing the moulds with movable plungers, operated by alever'forthe purpose of expelling the bricks after they have been'rpressed.
In the accompanyingrdrawings, A represents the frame of the brick-press. A substantial shaft, B, revolves vertically in bearings in this frame, andhas secured upon it the'mould-tahle C, which turns with it. Any-con,
- venient number of moulds, D D, are fastened to the top of thc mould-table. They are madeln the fornidesired for the brick, and ot' such depth that when the form-er4 which presses thebrick is at the bottom of Vits stroke, 'the space betweenl it and theplunger, which forms thc bottom of the mould, shall be equal to the width offthe brick. The width may be diminished by putting pieces under the bottom of the plungers. Eachmould is provided with a plunger, E, which rests upon the mould-table,` and forms the face uponwhich the brick is pressed. The plungers are raised to expel thebricks after being pressed by the lever-F acting upon the stems E', attached to the plungers, ahd passing through the table. They are prevented from rising too far by the stops e. The screw H works in a nut in the frame, and .is operated by t'ne lever H. The former, G, which presses thc bricks, is" attached to its lower end, and has its vertical motion dirccted by the guides la.' I represents the spout, pthrorughh which the conmete is fed to the moulds, and e e'cutches, in which the stop cl engages for the purpose olholdingthe table stationary while a brick is being pressed. The spring cL holds4 the stop in the catch. The table C has arms C upon its lower side, which Vsupport and strengthen it,.and may be furnished-with friction-rollers upon their ends, bearing upon the fra-mc, for the purpose of facilitating the 'rotation of-the table.
The operation .of the press is as follows The mould-table being in the position shown by the drawings, onc
of the moulds will beimmediatcly beneath the mouth of the spout I, from which it is lled niith concrete.; The table is then rotated in the direction of' the arrow, which brings the mould just lled beneath the form,er,'G,'i,n proper position for pressing the brick, and presents another mouldtothe sp'out I to be-lled. It is heldlin this position by the stop cl engaging in one 'of the catches, while the brick is pressed by screwingrdown the former;`
G, upon the mould by the lever I-I. The table is then further rotated and the operation rcpeated, the mould,
vcontainimT the brick pressed, being relieved of it by raising the plungerby the lever I", after which the-plunger p drops, and the mould is in readiness to receive a fresh' charge of concrete.
C'Zaz'm. The combination of the frame A and table C with the moulds -D D, spout` I, former Gr, screw H, piangere- E, and lever F, all arranged and operating substantially as and for the purpose described. i i In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, vI alr'ix my signature in presence of tvm witnesses. B. linearen.
