PATENT .OEFICE.
OF FORT DODGE, IOWA.
WOOD-PRESERVING COMPOUND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 778,821, dated December 27, 1904.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTOINETIE MAGAULAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Dodge, in the county of Webster and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Wood- Preserving Compound, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a compound or composition of matter for preserving wood, and has for its object to provide a compound of this character which when painted or otherwise coated on the surface of the wood'will form a moisture-proof covering and effectually protect and preserve the wood for an indefinite period.
With this object in view the invention consists in a compound formed of the following ingredients, to wit: linseedil, one-half gallon; kerosene, three pin and sodiu I cate, one pound, the whole being com in or mixed Wllill powdered charcoal In carrying out t e invention the linseedoil, kerosene, and sodium silicate are first suitable receptacle, so that the several parts will be well blended, after which a sufiicient quantity of powdered charcoal is added to give Application filed October 22,1904- Serial lilo. 229,610.
The compound thus formed may be applied to the su rface of the wood to be protected with {brush or in any other suitable manner, and when dry will form a hard impervious coating and efiectually protect the wood from the deleterious action of the elements.
' Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A wood-preserving compound, the same consisting of l in seed-oil, kerosene and sodium silicage in the proportions specified, the whole ANTOINETTE MACAULAY.
