Be it known that we, @HARLEY J. LORD and GEORGE A. BROWNING, citizens of the United States, residing at Kingfisher, in the county of Kingfisher and Territory of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Combined Halter and Weaner, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a combined colt and calf weaner and halter; and the object of the same is to provide a halter of practically ordinary form with devices for the reception of a removable weaning attachment whereby a halter may be quickly converted into a weaning device, and thus dispense with the necessity of employing separate devices for the two purposes.

The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts which will be more fully hereinafter set forth.l

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of the improved halter, showing the weaning attachment applied thereto and as arranged on the head of a colt. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the halter, showing the weaning attachment disconnected. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 with the weaning attachment applied. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the weaning attachment. Fig. 5 is a central longitudinal section through the weaning attachment. Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of a connecting-loop for parts of the halter, showing means for securing the weaning attachment thereto.

Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

With the exception hereinafter noted, the halter comprises the usual parts of such structures, and as they are well known and understood in the art of harness it is deemed unnecessary to specifically refer to them. The

addition to the ordinary form of halter resides in the connecting-loop 1 for the noseband, chin-strap, and cheek-straps. The front member or bar of the loop l in each instance has outstanding ears or projections 2, with openings 3 therein, one in each, the ears or projections being disposed in alinement.

The weaning attachment consists of an arcuate supporting-band 4, of metal or other suitable material, provided with a suitable covering and having an arcuate guard 5 arranged over the front thereof. The said guard 5 has its terminal deflected inwardly, as at 6, and attached to the end of the supporting-band. The band t has a series of rounded pins 7 secured therein and extending through the guard in radial directions to prevent the approach of a colt or calf to its mother, as will be readily understood. The connected ends of the band I and guard 6 are provided with loops 8 of such width as to readily fit between the ears or projections Q. and receive removable connecting-pins 9 to secure the weaning attachment to the loops l over the nose-band of the halter, as clearly shown by Figs. l and 3. When the use of the weaning attachment is not desired, it may be readily separated by withdrawing the pins 9, and the halter alone can then be employed, as in ordinary devices of this class.

The improved combined device will be found exceptionally convenient and economical in view of the fact that one device, with the weaning attachment, will replace two independent devices for the same purpose. The parts of the halter are adjustable to adapt the same to be fitted to different sizes of heads, and it will be understood that leather will be preferably used in the construction of the halter, though other materials may be employed, if desired.

Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new isl. The combination with a halter, having outstanding ears or projections with openings therein, of a weaning attachment having its ends separably secured between the said projections.

2. The combination with a halter, of connecting-loops for the nose-band of the latter, said connecting-loops having front pairs of outstanding projections with openings therein, and a weaning attachment having its terminalsremovably held between s aid projections.

3. The combination with a halter, of connecting-loops to which the terminals of a noseband are secured, said connecting-loops being V provided with outwardly-projecting pairs of apertured ears arranged in vertical alinement, and a weaning attachment consisting of an IO arcuate supporting-band provided with a cov-
