Description

Patented March 22, 1904.
Miren Srarns ATENT- OFFICE.
BERTRAM LENZEN, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR OF ONEJ HALF TO GEORGE O. RUEOKERL OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
DISPLAY-TRAY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. r.755,02'1, dated Merch 22, i904.
Application filed November 5, 1903. Serial No. 179,889. (N0 model.) l
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BnnrRAn'I LENZEN, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Trays, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to display-trays adapted to expose particularly watches, lockets, and similar articles of value, and has for its object the ends commonly sought in analogous devices, but particularly a cheap and secure means of exposing the articles contained in the tray in such a manner as to expose a maximum of the ornamentation and outline of said articles.
To the above ends my invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a top plan view of my new tray, showing a portion of the top casing broken away; Fig. 2, a vertical section of the same on line 2 2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a transverse section of the same on line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Like reference-letters indicate like parts throughout the views.
In det-ail my tray Ycomprises a rectangular body A with upright walls a. The floor is channeled, as at b, to receive slidablemetallic locking-strips B, which are provided upon their rear extremities with handles a and upon their upper surfaces with a series of engaging prongs f f, projecting from the side of the strips opposite the handles. The lockingstrips are tensioned by looped springs C, xed to the floor of the tray and pressing upon projections m upon the locking-strips; but any convenient spring means may be employed for this purpose-such, for instance, as those shown in my prior patent, No. 710,475, dated October 7, 1902. A transverse retaining strip or strips w, fixed to the iioor of the tray, retain the locking-strips in their respective channels.
Intermediate and parallel to the channels Z) are cleats s, which support the cover of the tray. The cover may be one integral piece 5@ or may consist, as shown in Fig. 1, of a series of fabric-covered wooden strips D, provided with a horizontal series of oblong slots or openings c upon their margins and beveled circular depressions Z directly below' each slot. 5 5
o represents channels in said depressions at right angles to the slots c.
The watch E or other article is applied to my tray by inserting its suspension-ring e into a slot c and allowing the side of the watch to rest in the beveled opening d.
" My device is operated thus: When it is desired to attach or remove the watch, the locking-strip containing the prong which corresponds with the watch is pulled rearwardly i against the tension of spring O.
Having described my invention, whatI claim Is- 1. In a display-tray, the combination with a body portion comprising a base and upright walls, of engaging means upon the base, and a cover fixed in the body portion above the engaging means provided with series of slots therein and with series of beveled depressions adjacent the slots and channels in said depressions at right angles to and transversing said slots.
2. In a display-tray, of the character described, the combination with a body portion comprising a base and upright walls, of en- 8O gaging means for an ornament upon the base, projections on said engaging means, a transverse retainer for said means, springs engaging said projections and aV cover mounted in the body portion above the engaging means provided with a passage for the ring of the ornament, and a circular depression for vthe body of the ornament, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BERTRAM LENZEN.
