SIEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 753,320, dated March 1, 1904.
Applcatiun tiled June 30. 1903.
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RALPH SGHEUER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, Manhattan, county` and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a buckle provided with balls which are adapted to engage the belt or other device to which the buckle is applied, so as to reduce the friction and facilitate the manipulation of the buckle.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan of my improved buckle. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof on line 2 2, Fig. l, and Fig. 3 a perspective view of the buckle.
The frame of the buckle has a front bar a and a rear bar a', to which is pivoted the tongue Z2, that engages the front bar a, as usual. The bars a a' are grooved along their inner sides for the reception of antifriction-balls c c', which project inwardly beyond the bars, as shown. At the ends of bars a a the balls are held against displacement by the side bars a2 of the buckle-frame.
It will be seen that the balls c are adapted to contact with the xed end of the belt, suspender, or other device, which is looped around Serial No. 163,700. (No model.)
the rear bar a', while the balls lc are adapted to engage the free end or tongue of such belt, &c. Thus the balls will greatly reduce the friction, prevent abrasion, and facilitate the I opening and closing of the buckle.
That I claim isl 1. A buckle having a rear bar, a front bar lgrooved along its inner side, antifriction-balls within the groove of the front bar, and a tongue pivoted to the rear bar and engaging RALPH SGHEUER.
