CHIP-RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 740,236, dated September 29, 1903.
Application filed January 14, 1908. Serial No. 139,000. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, STANLEY A. COHEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of- NewYol-k, have invented a new and Improved Ohip- Rack, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to game accessories; and its object is to provide a new and improved chip-rack which is simple and durable in construction and arranged to permit easy and quick attachment to or removal from a table and to bring the rack in position for the player to conveniently place the chips into the rack or remove the same therefrom. The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement arranged for and applied to a table having straight sides. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the improvement detached from a table. Fig. 4. is a rear face view of part of the same, and Fig. 5 is a plan view of the improvement arranged for rise on a roundtable. The body A of the chip -rack is either straight, when it is to be used on a table having straight sides, or segmental, as shown in Fig. 5, when the chip-rack is to be used on a round table. In either case, however, the bodyA is provided with chip-retaining chambers A, arranged one alongside the other, opening at the top and having apertured bottoms A for the lowermost chip to rest on, the front of each chamber A having a vertical slot A for the insertion of the fingers to enable a player to remove a desired number of chips piled in the chamber or conveniently place the chips in position in the chamber.
On the back of the body. A, at the middle thereof, is secured a retaining-plate B, having a vertically-disposed dovetail groove B,
. adapted to be engaged by a correspondinglyshaped arm 0, projecting from the forward end of a U-shaped clamp 0, provided at its rear member with a clamping-screw O for engagement with a board D, depending from the table-top D, as plainly shown in Fig. 2.
On the front member of the U shaped clamp O is secured an elastic boss E, preferably made of rubber, adapted to abut against the front face of the board D, so that when the clamping-screw O is screwed up against the inner face of the said board then the clamping device is securely fastened in position on the said board. Now as the arm 0 engages the dovetail groove B it is evident that the securely holding the rack-body A in position on the table. Furthermore, the felted projections F are of such size as to bring the innor or rear face of the body A close to the front edge of the tabletop D, as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 2.
Now from the foregoing it will be seen that the clamping device can be readily secured to the table and its arm O engaged with the plate B to securely hold the rack-body A in position on the front of the table directly in front of the player, so that the latter can conveniently place the chips into the chamber A or remove the same therefrom. Thus the chips are at all times conveniently out of the way of the players and still within easy reach of each individual player.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. A chip-rack comprising a bodyhaving a plurality of chip-retainin g chambers arranged one alongside the other, the chambers being open at the top and the front of each chamher having a vertical slot, each chamber having a fixed bottom comprising an inwardly
